Sitting in the plush theater, the audience watches the play before them. Currently, a man was on stage holding a dagger high above his head ready to plunge it right into his heart. The set portrays that of an office with mocha coloured walls and mahogany furniture. Without any last remarks the man thrusts the blade into his chest and falls to the ground. The curtains close and the audience claps and cheers.
The stage manager goes waits intently for the actor to get up and go back stage but he doesn't move. The man walks over to the actor and notices a pool of blood below him. He quickly runs back stage and soon enough the crime scene investigators are there.
"What have we got here?" Catherine asked Nick as they both walked to the stage where the body was.
"DB, 1 stab wound to the chest," Nick said, "His name is Jason Ferguson."
"Right, the audience members must be drones. Did they not see the blood?" Catherine questioned.
"Maybe they thought he was just that good of an actor," Nick said with a smile.
"Maybe we should start looking around."
Catherine and Nick began to process the crime scene. They grabbed their kits and started looking around the set for anything suspicious. Nick went of to the desk set piece and looked in one of the drawers and found a knife. He picked it up in his gloved hand and noticed a small button on the handle. He pressed it and the blade retracted.
"Hey Cath, check this out," Catherine turned and watched Nick retract the blade of the knife.
"Well, I think we might have found out what happened. Good work, Nick," Catherine said.
They continued to look around the set but didn't find much more. They headed back to the lab to get the evidence processed and to get an autopsy on the body. Once at the lab, Catherine immediately took the knife and dusted it for finger prints but there were none. She left the lab and went to go find Nick, who was with the coroner.
"Get anything off the knife?" Nick asked as he saw Catherine enter the room.
"No, how's the body coming?" She asked.
"So far, everything's consistent with the stabbing, nothing unusual," he replied.
"I have a theory," Catherine started."Alright."
"Jason Ferguson: Maybe not the most well liked, maybe someone held a grudge against him because he got the lead role in the play. They're angry so they decided to switch the knives."
"Good theory, but we shouldn't rule out suicide just yet," Nick replied.
"We should go back to the theater and interview some of the actors," Catherine said.
"Okay, let's go," Nick replied and with that they were back in the Tahoe and were driving down the flashy streets of Las Vegas and off to the theater.
