"Have you ever heard it said that people join the stars when they die?" – Tiki to Nowi in
the Harvest Scramble DLC.
The coldness of the winter night made Nowi shiver beneath her coat. She had been wandering about town, trying to shake off a dreadful feeling in her heart. She had gone down every road and walked past every shop and home, but still the sadness persisted.
The manakete sighed. It was time to face facts.
I miss my friends.
Nowi had made many dear friends in her long lifetime, but none compared to the ones she made in her time with the Shepherds. All of her memories of the time flooded into her mind.
The Shepherds had saved her during a time of war, and the decision to travel with them was the best she had ever made. She had met so many amazing people then. She had met her wonderful husband there. She'd even met her future daughter during the time. She remembered making fun of Gregor for his age, and how he would always whip the joke right back at her. She remembered playing hide-and-seek with Cherche and Minerva. She remembered that she even got Lon'qu to play house with her.
Nowi couldn't stand it anymore; she had to make the pain go away. Suddenly, she remembered something Tiki once told her in the Outrealms. It was at that moment that her body was filled with a new energy.
I'm going to see my friends again.
Nowi ignored the coldness cutting through her as she ran through the streets and zipped through the houses where the villagers slept. When she reached the outskirts of the town, Nowi wasted no time whipping out her dragonstone and transforming. Her powerful form flew over the treetops of the forest as fast as she could make herself go. Finally, she reached the grassy top of the tallest hill in the land. She transformed back into her casual form, re-wrapped her coat tightly around herself, and sat down.
Her fingers and toes curled into the grass as she planted her hands behind her and tilted her head back. It seemed as if every inch of the sky was filled with twinkling stars. Nowi bit her lip, trying to hold back tears of joy as she saw the faces of her former comrades in the night sky.
My friends. My family.
It has been two hundred years since the time of the Shepherds.
It's been a long time since Nowi's gone home.
