DISCLAIMER: I do not own Naruto. Naruto belongs to Masashi Kishimoto.
So so before anybody asks, no I did not abandon my Sword Art Online Fanfiction. I am working on that one and I have been quite busy. But I had a bit of free time and decided to write this. It's a Rin Nohara x Reader story. I have not seen any of these, so I decided to make one of my own, enjoy.
"[Name]-kun!"
It was the eager shout of an energetic, yet serious kunoichi.
Rin Nohara.
She had been my crush ever since the academy. However I, and a few other guys, were dismayed to know that she fawned over Kakashi Hatake.
Or at least, used to.
Now that most of the people who had graduated from the academy were chuunin, some even jounin, Rin had matured from the young, rash, girl she had once been.
It was also worth noting her beauty had increased along with her common sense.
Anyway, that didn't matter. I snapped out of my reminiscing and turned around.
"Hai, Nohara-san?" I asked with a neutral expression.
The medic-nin laughed. "No need to be so formal, [Name]-kun." She then smirked and teasingly asked, "Or is there a different reason you call me that?"
I struggled to keep the oh-so obvious blush from further growing on my face. I was a chuunin, dammit.
"No, no!" I strongly objected. "It's just..." I was thinking of what to say. "It's just that we... we're all chuunin now and maybe we should be more formal."
The brunette raised an eyebrow and smiled, not really believing my lie but willing to let it pass. "Is that so, [Name]-kun? I'll ask the others about it."
I sighed.
"Anyway," her expression morphed into a more serious and less playful one. "Hokage-sama wants to meet you in his office, along with me, Obito, and Kakashi."
I nodded. "Thank you for telling me, Rin-chan." I laughed seeing the slight uncomfortableness of the chuunin's expression.
"Right. Well, see you there," she vanished in a swirl of leaves.
"I'd better get going too," I mumbled, also Shunshining to the Hokage's office.

After everybody was here, or at least, in Obito's case, after he came two hours late and made up an excuse.
"Right, well..." The Hokage, AKA Minato Namikaze, the Yellow Flash, began. "Since the war has escalated to dangerous proportions, I have decided to have ninja who I deem up to this to execute. You will all be on patrol duty around Konoha. I will split you into groups of two."
He showed us a map of Konoha and pointed where we'd be patrolling.
"Kakashi, Obito since you two were under my team for numerous years and act well on each others' strengths, I will pair you two up. You can both guard the northern border," the Hokage from the masked male to the one with goggles.
"As for you two, [Name] and Rin, I will pair you two up. You two can guard the southern border."
Obito spluttered with indignation. "How come I have to be with the Baka, sensei?"
Minato, who was amused, just smiled. "I explained the reason to you just a while ago. I deemed you two fit to be in a group together as you play on each others' strengths. No objections."
Obito looked like he was going to protest further, however Rin stopped him by telling him it would be alright. After that, the Uchiha had calmed down slightly.
He scratched the back of his head and smiled before walking off with an annoyed Kakashi who felt they were wasting time.
Rin then turned my way and nervously smiled. "I'm so sorry about them. Obito can be a bit..." she trailed off.
"Hyper?" I suggested. Rin nodded.
I gave her a reassuring smile, trying to put her at ease. It worked, apparently, as Rin visibly relaxed.
"Thank you [Name]-kun, for understanding," the medic-nin smiled, a very small, yet noticeable blush, forming on her face.
"Ah, it's no problem at all," I said trying to keep my expression neutral as possible. Rin was blushing because I helped her! Maybe she may like me?
I decided to file away the information for later.
Minato, who had watched the two, was smiling a bit at this encounter. The two would make a perfect couple, provided that they actually got together. He would do what he could to get them to that stage of boyfriend and girlfriend.
"Oh no," Rin cried out. "We've stalled for too long! I'm so sorry, sensei!" She bowed.
I bowed, too, feeling a bit of shame for not immediately getting to my assigned duty. "I'm very sorry, Hokage-sama."
Minato laughed. "Don't worry about it, just do your best."
Rin and I both nodded, determined expressions clouding our previous ones.
Both of us shunshined to the southern border of Konoha.

After a few hours of patrolling, nothing really happened. Rin and I made a bit of small talk, and I was getting ready to ask her something.
"So, uh, Nohara-san—"
Rin cut me off. "No!" she yelled a bit too loudly. "No. Just... just Rin. Please." She practically pleaded.
"So, er, Rin-san," I began. "I was wondering if—" I was cut off yet again by a cry of pain from somebody.
Rin and I immediate rushed to the aid of the fallen Konoha shinobi. We looked up to see an Iwa nin staring at us.
I examined the wounds of the fallen Konoha ninja. It was bad. By the looks of it, he had a few broken ribs, a fractured leg, and quite a lot of bruises and cuts.
This was enough to rile me up. "You bastard! You'll pay for this!
"Wind Scythe Jutsu!" I yelled. A large blade of wind rippled through the air, instantly killing the Iwa nin in front of me.
I rushed to the aid of Rin, watching her use a light green glow to heal the ninja. Her expression was one of intense concentration. However, healing the Konoha nin seemed to have taken a toll on her health as she nearly collapsed from exhaustion. Before she did, though, I caught her.
"You alright?" I asked, using my weight to support hers.
She nodded, her face pale. "I think... so..." she murmured.
My eyebrows scrunched up in an expression of concern. The most efficient thing to do was to carry her. So I carried her in my arms, bridal style.
"[Name]-kun..." Rin protested weakly, her eyes slowly closing.
I looked down at her delicate form and smiled. "Don't worry, Rin-san. I would never let anybody harm you."
The medic-nin, however, did not reply as she fell asleep in my arms.
'She's so cute when she sleeps,' I thought. But I quickly shook my head and dismissed the thought. She probably didn't like me anyway. Besides, this wasn't the time for admiring others.
I shunshined back to the Hokage's office, explaining to him the details of our mission. I told him the fallen Konoha shinobi, and the death of the Iwa nin.
"And Rin?" Minato gestured to the sleeping girl in my arms, seemingly bemused.
"She was drained when she healed the severely injured Konoha nin," I explained. "It took a bit of a toll on her."
Minato nodded. "Then you two are dismissed."
"Hai, Hokage-sama." I bowed as low as I could without disrupting the girl in my arms.
I shunshined to my apartment. What to do now?
'I don't want to disturb Rin, however she is tired and I don't know where she lives.'
I decided to have her stay here for tonight. So I set Rin down on the couch temporarily.
Pulling out a spare futon from a closet, I set it down in the living room, put a blanket and a pillow on it.
I pulled open the blanket and picked Rin up from her spot where she was sitting. I proceeded to set her down on the futon and pulled the blanket over her.
"Goodnight Rin-san." I closed the lights.
Meanwhile, Minato was smiling in his office. "I'm glad for the two of them. It seems everything is going well."

The next morning I woke up urgently, but remembered we had today off. I breathed a light sigh of relief when I, yet again, forgot something. What happened to Rin?
I went to check on her only to notice that she was preparing to leave.
"Going so soon?" I teased, watching her.
"[N-Name]-kun!" she squeaked, slightly startled. Then she gave that irresistible smile.
Without speaking, she walked up to me an gave me a kiss on the cheek. Then she caressed my cheek. "Thank you, [Name]-kun, for taking care of me."
I was sure that my face was a strawberry red as I saw Rin ask, "Getting a bit red, are we?" she teased back. I noticed she was blushing a bit, too.
"N-Nohara-san... I..." The words caught in my throat. It was as if I couldn't speak, a million tiny chains closing my mouth.
"It's okay, you don't have to..." she trailed off with a sad expression. "I... I better get going..."
I tried, desperately, to stop her. However it was like I was held in place, my feet cemented into the ground.
I saw Rin's hand wipe something glistening away from her face. Could it be, a tear?
The battle hardened kunoichi. One who'd witnessed many deaths, healed severe injuries, lost comrades on missions.
Crying over me?
I had to confront my feelings. For the sake of, not just me, but also Rin.
During my daydream, I had not noticed that she'd already left.
I bounded out the door, leaping after her.

'Stupid,' Rin thought. 'I'm stupid enough to think [Name]-kun would accept my feelings.'
After leaping away from the fellow Leaf nin's house, she went to her old training ground where she used to train with Minato, Kakashi, and Obito.
She leaned back against the tree, eyes hidden by the shadow of the branches.
"Nohara-san!" She heard somebody yell.
Rin was simply too tired to resist or run away. She simply stayed leaning back against the tree, defeated.

"Nohara-san!" I called out, finally spotting the medic-nin. She did not meet my gaze.
I tried once again.
No responce.
I kneeled down to her level, gently holding her chin so she could meet my gaze. "Nohara-san..."
She slapped my hand away. I looked at her in shock.
"Nohara-san, is that it?" Her arms were shaking with anger, but mostly sadness.
"After I express my-my feelings... Just Nohara-san?"
She laughed.
"I really am a fool."
I just stood there shocked, not knowing how to respond.
I began to hear a soft tap tap sound coming from everywhere. It slowly began to intensify.
"Rin... I..." The words, yet again, caught in my throat. I knew, though, in my heart I had to say what I wanted to say. Before I lost my nerve.
She glared at me.
"Rin I'm... I'm very sorry." I began slowly. "I didn't know how to respond to your actions earlier as I was surprised. Just as much as you must've been for doing that."
Her expression slightly softened.
I was beginning to go on a roll now. "To tell you the truth, I've liked you ever since the academy. I've just never told you as I thought you fawned over Kakashi."
"I guess I did," Rin mumbled.
"But I understand. And I'd like to tell you, it's mutual. So, Rin Nohara, please forgive me."
Rin was about to question me, however I gave her a soft kiss on the lips.
We didn't actually notice how long we'd been kissing until we broke apart, desperate for oxygen.
She smiled at me.
"Arigatou, [Name]-kun."
I happily laughed.
The overhead rain clouds began to clear, and the atmosphere once again became sunny.

Meanwhile in his office, Minato was spying on the now-couple. He smiled as it reminded him a bit about him and Kushina getting together.
"You should know it's not nice to invade others privacy," Kushina said. However, even she, was giggling. "They're so cute together, Minato-kun."
Minato just looked back at his wife, smiling. He was honestly glad for his former student.
