This is my first fanfic inspired by last night's casualty for anyone who watched. Let me know what you think. It's only short for now. I will update if people want me too.

Two weeks. Two weeks she'd been in the ED and Zoe had already had enough. This was her department and nobody – not even Connie was going to take that away from her.

*Beep* A text.

Hi Zoe how's things?

How's the witch?

Nick

Nick had been in regular contact since Zoe had contacted him for advice two weeks ago. He was very much on Zoe's side. However, his contact wasn't having the desired effect. It wasn't calming her down and making her feel better, it was highlighting a deep hole that existed in Zoe's heart. It was a constant reminder that he wasn't there. The ED was Zoe's baby, and the only person in the world she would even consider sharing it with was him. Nick Jordan.

Oh you know. Same old.

Connie knows best.

I'm getting the most out of her – piled her up with admin so I can run MY department.

She put her phone in her pocket and headed out for a cigarette, passing through the ED on her way. She walked like a woman on a mission to make sure nobody got in her path. As she got outside and lit up she remembered how much Nick hated her smoking, but it was her only vice. Saying that, she'd give it up for just one more night with Nick. He was all that had filled her thoughts for days now. He was the last thing she thought about before she went to sleep, he was the first thing she thought about in the morning and he filled every gap in between.

"Zoe?" It was Tess. She loved to catch Zoe off guard. "Zoe, are you okay? Have you been crying?"

A single tear had rolled down Zoe's cheek at the thought of Nick.

"What? No! Don't be silly."

"Zoe, don't lie to me. I know you too well."

Zoe just shrugged her shoulders and took a long drag of her cigarette.

"What is it?" Tess continued.

"It's Nick. We've been in contact again. I emailed him about Connie, it started with a few emails, and now we're texting. I was just beginning to move on Tess. And now this."
Tess didn't say a word – she didn't have too. She just put her arm on Zoe's shoulder and looked sympathetically.
