Frozen Still
Prologue?
October 2000.
Stephanie McMahon - Helmsley just lay on the hospital gurney in shock over what she had just heard.
She was pregnant.
Pregnant and a widow in the span of a week.
At that thought Stephanie closed her eyes tightly, trying not to bring to mind the horrible images of the night one week prior. People said all week long that she was lucky to have been backstage when everything happened. Never mind that her husband and brother, along with seven other wrestlers were officially dead and they had no clue whether or not the bodies that were being buried and/or cremated were the correct ones. Never mind that there were catastrophic injuries to both fans and wrestlers alike, and that some, including her father, Vince, were still missing. She had been lucky they said. She did not feel so lucky.
When she had collapsed at Hunter and Shane's funeral and Shawn Michaels drove her to the hospital, she thought it was simply the stress of the last week catching up with her and the doctors would prescribe some tranquilizers and send her home. She didn't expect that she would be told that she had nearly miscarried her and Hunter's unborn child.
It wasn't that she was entirely upset at the new development. She and Hunter had recently started talking about trying to conceive a child. So a part of her was happy to have a piece of Hunter still with her. She just wished that she had found out a week earlier.
So that Hunter could share in it.
Stephanie leaned into the man that had taken her to the hospital, and buried her face into Shawn Michaels chest.
"Oh, Steph," Shawn said sadly, as he let Stephanie cry out her unusual mix of grief, anger, and joy.
More to hopefully come soon. Thanks for reading.
