I don't own RENT…the Larson family does

Joanne really didn't know how she ended up here on the corner of Eleventh Street and Avenue B. It just felt natural to be there and even though she hadn't been back there in ten years it still felt the same. Joanne had come to New York with her girlfriend Angela who was there on business. Joanne had been tired of sitting in the hotel or walking around in all the touristy spots so she came here to the only place in New York that brought back memories, some bad and some good.

It seemed like yesterday that she had left Maureen and New York City for the last time. Maureen had been cheating again and this time Joanne didn't want to give her any more second chances. She packed up all of her belongings and left New York to take a job in Chicago. It was in Chicago that Joanne had met the love of her life, a fellow lawyer named Angela Jones. They had married a few years ago and Joanne had given birth to a baby boy who they named Damian Angel Jones-Jefferson. Yes, Joanne's life had improved since she had left the drama queen and the big city.

Sure Joanne had been invited to come back to spend time with her friends but each time she had said no. She knew that chances were that Maureen was still there and she didn't want to see her and have all the memories flood back. She had finally come back a few years ago, just after she had married Angela, to attend Collins' funeral. She had sent money for the other funerals but Collins was different. He had been like a big brother to her, so when it came time to say goodbye to him, she came to the funeral.

Joanne had been snapped back to reality by her son telling her that he was hungry. As they walked away to get some food, Joanne could see some people walking into the building where the loft was. She walked up to them so she could see them closer because she wanted to see who lived there now. She saw a young African-American woman talking loudly on a cell phone while arguing with the dark haired woman next to her. The dark haired woman was light skinned and wore leather pants and a leather jacket. To Joanne, this scene looked very familiar. Joanne decided to go up and talk to them just to find out what was going on in the neighborhood. She found out that the dark skinned woman was also a lawyer and that the girl she was arguing with was her girlfriend. As Joanne walked away from the young couple, she turned back for a last time to see the lawyer walk into the building.

"Goodbye Joanne" she whispered and then she left Alpabet city and the old Joanne for the last time.
