A/N: Found this old one other day and thought I'd share it with you as well. Working on the next chapter of Chasing Dreams-don't worry, it's coming. This is set during KCK storyline. Enjoy! Until next time-PCGirl.
John stumbled into his office and shut the door—he still hadn't slept. Scared of what dreams may come—of Natalie in danger and him unable to save her, or constant memories of times he hurt her or came so close to realizing that inside he loved her. He couldn't hold off the sleep any longer and leaned back in his office chair, propping his feet up on the desk. He'd let himself sleep, but just long enough so he could think straight and then it'd be back to searching for her.
In his dream he walked into a completely black room and saw three spotlights shining down onto the floor. Natalie walked slowly up to far left one and spoke, "John."
"Hey," he said as he smiled. "I knew you'd come to me in my dreams."
"I'm not the only one though," she said as and Caitlyn and Evangeline stepped into the other lighted spots. "We've decided you need an intervention."
"An intervention?" he questioned, wondering just how bad he needed sleep.
"You've changed John. I don't know who you are now, but you aren't the man I loved," said Caitlyn. "Why are you acting like this? Do you really want to live in the land of the undead for the rest of your life?"
"No, but—."
"There's always a but, isn't there, Natalie?" joked Evangeline. "I can't say I love you, but—."
"I care for you, but—."
"I think he gets the idea, girls," smiled Caitlyn. "So no buts—what do you want John? Better yet—who?"
"I don't deserve either."
"Do you always avoid the question, Lieutenant?" asked Natalie.
"Please tell me you're being rhetorical," spoke Evangeline, crossing her arms and facing Natalie.
"What made you pick two completely opposite people, John? I mean they are like night and day—though I suppose I see your interest in each," she said as she turned to look at the other two.
"It's time for an answer John—I'm not going to wait forever," huffed Evangeline.
"Give it a break, Evangeline. He can't just click his heels together and come up with a solution. Though he reminds me of that song—how does the last line go?" spoke Natalie as she began humming Desperado. "Oh yeah—you better let somebody love you before it's too late."
"What?"
"It's by the Eagles—you and your classical music wouldn't know who they were," said Natalie as she rolled her eyes.
"Just because I happen to like classical doesn't mean I don't know who they are."
Geez, thought John, even in my dreams they are nit picking each other.
"You got that right," said Caitlyn as she began walking towards John and the spotlight over her followed her. "What is it, John? This is a dream—I can read your thoughts. So which one will it be? Which one do you think is better for you? Understands you better,
knows you better? Has seen you at your best and worst? Understands the reason you do things on the job and accepts your actions?
"Come on John—I can see the answer is right on yours lips," she said as the two spotlights showing Evangeline and Natalie went black and she looked behind her before looking back at him. "Oops—times up," she giggled and her spotlight went out also as he said the name under his breath.
John woke up with a shock to see Rex was standing over his desk quizzically, "What is it Balsom?"
"You just said Natalie's name in your sleep."
