This was not how Nick or Finn pictured they would spend their day off (actually Finn's day off and Nick was on call). The original plan was to take the kids to the park for a picnic and let them play at the playground to run off their seemingly excess energy. However, as they had everything ready to go and were one foot out the door when the thunder sounded and then the clouds opened up and it began pouring rain and like that their plans changed.
So they closed the door and once they had put Evan and Emma down on the ground and as soon as their shoes off the tykes took off running around and making a lot of noise. Nick and Finn looking at each other and agreeing nonverbally it was going to be a long day as they were now stuck with two exuberant kids.
Shortly after their first birthday, the munchkins began walking and were able to get their hands on any anything and were into everything, thankfully not the electrical socket since they had covered even before the tots were born.
Soon they heard sounds coming from the bed room and the bathroom, Nick and Finn shook their heads and quickly went to the locations. When they got there Finn had seen that Emma had gotten in the books she and her brother shared and quickly got to work in getting the books placed back whereas Nick had seen Evan literally buried himself under what looked like two rolls of toilet paper.
As Nick worked to get his son out of the mess he wondered, what is it with toddlers and toilet paper?
No sooner was the mess cleaned up when the kids began giggling mischievously and took off running causing both Finn and Nick to groan loudly. They took off and followed the little stinkers— that was how it played out for the rest of the time: Emma and Evan then made a mess of all their toys they had received so far. Then they led mom and dad on a wild goose chase. The worst of it was when both got into the pots and pans and making a lot of noise and giving both Nick and Finn major headaches.
Several hours later both he and Finn had finally gotten the little goofballs to bed and they too were getting ready for bed; the squirts had been mischief makers all day long. As Nick sat in bed after having freshened up one thing went through his head, boy I thought watching after my nieces and nephews when they were young was tough, but this is even more so…those little stinkers.

Soon Finn had joined Nick and once Nick turned out the lamp he wrapped his arms around her. Once their heads hit the bed both were out like a light.
