A/N a songfic I wrote while procrastinating on yet another project
Disclaimer I own Harry Potter? Boy, that's new. I wonder when that happened?
(10 seconds later)
What? I don't own Harry anymore? Hmph! Way to burst my bubble.
So JK own HP, and Jimmy Buffett owns the song "Barefoot Children in the Rain"
Pitter patter, pitter patter – the rain started to fall
Scratch my back with a lightning bolt
Thunder rolls like a bass drum note
The sound of the weather is heaven's rag-time band
She sat there by the fire, working. When, all of a sudden, she glanced out the window.
We all fell down from the Milky Way,
Hanging' round here till the judgment day
Heaven only knows who's in command
She closed her books, and took them up to her room. Then she came back down to the common room and walked out the portrait hole. I followed her down the stairs and halls, then out the front doors of Hogwarts. She took off her shoes and socks, and ran out into the torrential rains. And started spinning, leaping, and running about.
Barefoot children in the rain
Got no need to explain
We'd be swinging on a ball and chain
It's always understood by those who play the game
Barefoot children in the rain
I stood there watching her from the safety of the doorway. Then she saw me and froze.
Show me yours and I'll show you mine
Take me back to days full with monkey shine's
Bouncing on a bubble full of trouble and the summer sun
I walked towards her.
Keep your raft from the river boat
Fiction over fact always has my vote
And wrinkles only go where the smiles have been
Then she ran, she ran as hard as she could, and then harder. I could see her pushing herself, willing herself to go faster, and she flew. There was no way I could apologize for walking in on her; there was no way that she could ever forgive me. This was her secret, and I'd ruined it.
Barefoot children in the rain
Got no need to explain
We'd be swinging on a ball and chain
It's always understood by those who play the game
Barefoot children in the rain
la la la la lala la la la la la la la la la
Barefoot children in the rain
I ran after her, my muscles burned, but I still ran after her.
Scratch my back with a lightning bolt
Thunder rolls like a bass drum note
Bouncing on a bubble full of trouble in the summer sun
Suddenly she stopped running and turned, turned to face me.
The sky turns blue and the sun appears
But the question's still "what are we doing here?"
I don't think the answer's close at hand
I slowed and walked up to her. I was right in front of her. I opened my mouth to speak, and then she kissed me. Two seconds later, she ran off again. But this time I didn't chase her. She'd more than forgiven me – she'd kissed me, and that was all I'd ever wanted.
Barefoot children in the rain
Got no need to explain
We'd be swinging on a ball and chain
It's always understood by those who play the game
Barefoot children in the rain
In the rain
In the rain
