Soji stood at the foot of two graves after the funeral was over, he dropped a single flower onto each one as he just stood there, thinking back to the two men who had passed away only days earlier. Pulling the elder mans coat around his thin frame he could feel tears running down his cheeks as people passed by him.
The young man closed his eyes as he recalled the last time he had seen them. He had been sick that day so he was unable to go to work. They waved goodbye as they had left together, several hours later he got word that there had been an accident and that neither man had survived.
Opening his eyes he sighed and looked at the ring in his hand, it matched the one that was on his finger, they had been so close and yet were never able to use them as the wedding was to be held that spring. He took his ring off and attached it to the other before putting it back on his finger as he knelt down slightly and played with the grass.
Soji knew that someone was watching him but he didn't acknowledge them since he just wanted to be left alone.
He stayed there until it started to snow and the male finally approached him, placing a hand on the younger mans shoulder. Soji looked at the tombstones once more as he read the names, the first one was of the male who had been the closest thing to a father he had ever known, and the second was for the only man he had ever loved.
'come on, we should go.' He heard the other say, but the voice seemed so far away as he stood up and turned around to hug the other, gripping the mans jacket as he allowed the tears to flow freely.
After a minute they walked to the car and Soji sat in the front seat as he stared out the window, curling up on the seat with the jacket still pulled tight. The other tried talking to him but it was to no avail as he pressed his nose to the fabric and inhaled deeply, still able to smell both men since they were often together and the smoke from his fiancés pipe would always get on the commanders clothes.
He closed his eyes again as more tears fell and many memories from the past came to mind of when the three of them had been together.
He fell asleep moments later and dreamt of a time many years ago, not too long after they met when all 3 of them were watching the fireworks together for the first time and he smiled a little in his sleep.
The elder man looked over at him and sighed with a gentle smile. 'Sleep well, Soji…' He said softly, knowing that as soon as he woke the others smile would fade once more.
