Percy's POV

I woke up with a splitting headache. Actually everything ached. I tried to remember what had happened yesterday. I had got…in … a fight. Yes Luke had turned up and tried to slaughter me during the night. I remembered the pain of it, wishing to die, to have it all end. I suddenly felt light headed. Acid lurched up my throat and splattered on the floor. All I could see was red before the whole of my cabin span and all turned black.

Annabeth's POV

I was worried. Percy hadn't turned up for breakfast or lunch or for any of his classes. When I tried knocking on his door there was no answer. I ended up getting the Stoll brothers to pick the lock. Once I was inside the sight killed me. Percy was lying on the bed with dozens of gashes all over him. On the floor beside him are two piles of sick. Ones of normal sick and the others of blood.

"Go get Chiron!" Conner yells to Travis. I was just frozen to the ground in shock. How could this happen to him? He was invincible. I felt empty inside.

I walked in there and saw Percy lying on his back covered in bandages. He looked terrible and I felt a tear fall down my cheek. Chiron trotted up to me and Thalia, who came as soon as she had heard what had happened. He looked very grim.

"It seems that he has been ill for a while. This was just the final straw which his body couldn't take." Chiron explained his voice cracking occasionally. A tear fell down Thalia's cheek which is really not her. Chiron left us with him. Ah he looks so peaceful.

"Why didn't he tell us he was ill?" I asked Thalia.

"I don't know." Thalia whispered. I touched his face. It was burning and felt all sweaty. I knew this was the end I was just too stubborn to realize it.

For the last week he has been getting weaker and weaker. Me, Thalia and Grover were always there with him, kind of taking shifts in looking over him, making sure he doesn't die or get any worse while we sleep.

It was Sunday. He had been slowly dying I just wouldn't believe it. He was so pale he matched the bed clothes. Grover was already in there. He looked up as I entered and sat next to him.

He looked me in the eyes, "He's so weak!" he whispered. "He's not strong enough to..." A tear slipped down his cheek, his voice cracked before he could finish. I dreaded the end of his sentence. I still hung on to his every word in hope that he'd found a way to save him though I knew that he hadn't. "He won't make it!" he turned to me as my tears found away to escape the barriers I had made.

"I know." I whispered back. I gently leaned on him watching the still form of my lover. We watched him until his brain gave up and the rest of him followed. It was dark when Chiron knocked the door. His face was grave, which meant it was bad news.

"I'm afraid to say that Thalia was attacked by a wolf, earlier today. The hunters tried to help her but the injuries were too severe. She died ten minutes ago." As soon as I heard this my whole world fell apart. I had lost two of my best friends in the space of an hour. I buried my head in Grover's shoulder and set afresh a new burst of tears.

The funerals were sad but quite sweet. Thalia and Percy were the only ones in their cabins so they had no other cabin mates to make shroud so, naturally, everyone offered. Thalia's was silver with bows and arrows all over it, it sent of silver smoke as it burnt. Percy's blue with waves, surfboards, swords and Mrs. O'Leary's slobber, it sent of blue smoke that smelled of him (the sea and blue things) as it smoked. I swear as they set alight I could sea a sparkle of gold but I blinked and it was gone. They were off as kindred spirits to blow around the earth in peace. Goodbye my friends.
