Star of Hope
"Maybe one day…. I can become a servant of God, too."
The small voice perked out from the darkness. Her eyes wide with naivety and filled with an uncanny resemblance to a certain Queen and her former ambition; even on this dusty road her eyes haunted his memory just as much as her voice threw off his emotions in a sense that she would approach such a question.
"I… enjoy my work," he began, wording not entirely coming to mind, "Though it can be hard."
"I will work hard."
She countered once more. The strong sense of determination filling her tone with a commanding air which surrounded the child looking no older than ten.
"You will work hard?" He questioned enigmatically, "dedicate your life and save many others?"
"Yes. I will."
The prince smiled, in the moment of his departure.
"You will always be strong then, Esther. You shall be our-,"
Once more then girl interjected with a curt nod; completing his sentence.
"-Star of Hope."
--
"Hope…. That's a memory so long ago, Father Abel."
Abel nodded. A smile placed on his crusnik lips in a way that only Esther could seem to understand; she smiled back,
"When will you be back?"
"When I can… You're Highness."
"Abel…"
The priest was taken aback at her wording. Calling him by his first name when Esther had always been keen on her polite speech; even though the make up she carried the same caring yet scared look she had always donned.
"Be well…"
She finished finally after a small pause from when she spoke his name; her hesitation painfully obvious and her fear of the rejection lingering within her eyes as she stared at him intently. Abel smiled.
"I, too, wish you well….. Esther. Stay strong."
"I will always be strong."
She repeated with a nod; her eyes glazed in almost a memorial way. Abel placed his gloved hand upon her head; a strange look upon his face and his tone reeking with the sound of departure.
"You always have been."
D: It's not as descriptive as I wanted it to be but oh well.. It has meaning... I hope. :P
