Summary: Lily has an addiction to her Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans and everyone wants to take them.
Purple Sandwiches in the Rain
"Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans are simply amazing," I stated with a smile on my face.
I popped another bean into my mouth and let the taste of grapes take over.
Marlene looked at me and smiled. "There's this thing called addiction, Lily..."
"That's when you can't live without something!" She gave me a pointed look. "Oh." I looked at her. "Shut up," I grumbled as I took another handful. It's kind of risky if you think about it, there are multiple types of beans. One of the worst combinations is grass when its mixed with cherry, vomit, ear wax, honey, and asparagus.
I pointed this out to Marlene.
"Yeah, Lily. You're such a risk taker." Marlene rolled her eyes and reached over to my pile.
I glared at her. "Just one."
She took at least four. Four of my precious beans, gone.
"Marlene! That's a whole meal!"
"Because-" she swirled the beans around in her mouth- "Chocolate, spaghetti, and dirt is a real meal."
"You took at least four, Marlene." I pointed out, looking at my now small pile.
"I didn't!" She opened her mouth and I saw three slime covered beans.
"Are those Berty Botts?" a familiar voice asked from above me.
"Yes, and you can't have any. They're mine and I've already lost four!" I said, turning to face James Potter. Sirius Black was standing to his right and looking down at me tauntingly.
"Surely you could spare a few!" he said indignantly.
"I can't."
James and Sirius sighed and sat down next to Marlene and I. I moved a couple inches away from the two but they didn't notice.
"I really think you can," James countered.
This year he had been different, not as annoying as last year, a big changed I noticed from the beginning. Sure, he was still hexing Slytherins but not so much with the first years, which was a big improvement.
I watched him eye my beans carefully, causing me not to notice Marlene taking anotherh handful leaving just under ten left.
"Hey!" I said, trying to snatch the beans back. She took a couple and put them in her mouth, holding the others tightly in her hand. I sighed.
"Everyone's eating my beans!"
"You mind as well share," Sirius said, taking almost all of what was left. I managed to steal one away from him and pop it in my mouth.
Of course it was watermelon. I hate watermelon Bertie Botts. Not only that, but it had a seed.
There was just one left. Just one of my precious beans left. I was looking at it, ready to sandwich the thing between my thumb and forefinger.
But before I could get there, James Potter snatched the thing right out from underneath me. I looked at him in utter shock as he placed it slowly, carefully on his tongue and let it sit there. Resisting the urge to throttle him, I stared.
"What's wrong, Evans?" he asked with the tiniest hint of a lisp now.
"You just ate my bean!" I cried, pointing to his lips.
"Not yet." He popped his tongue out of his mouth and sitting there, looking ever so lonely, was my Bertie Botts bean. My last Bertie Botts bean!
My jaw dropped.
"You can have it, you know." I looked at him skeptically. "You just have to get it." He closed his mouth, a smirk on his face.
I understood his implication.
Did I really love Berty Botts Every Flavor Beans enough to do this?
Yup.
It was peppermint.
A/n: Once again, another random short one shot when I should have been doing homework. This ones dedicated to my study group for doing the first part for me, and Andrew, who is in my study group, who gave me the title. I hoped you liked it. Reviews appreciated.
Much Love,
