A oneshot about the reason China captured Skullduggery's wife.

Summary: Valkyrie needs someone to talk to, and China is the perfect person.

A/N: Sorry if there's bad spelling or any of the characters are OOC! This just popped up, and I was dying to write something, since I have no ideas whatsoever for my other fanfic. The first chapter of the other story! This is my first fanfic I have ever posted.

Valkyrie really needed to go out for a day and to talk to somebody, and to pour her worries to. She knew China was who brought Skullduggery's wife to Serpine, but China was the person that was perfect for this.

Now the problem. Finding her. Valkyrie thought that the best place to look first was her library even though it was destroyed by Eliza Scorn.

By the time Valkyrie reached the building where the library used to be, her hair was soaked, and her jacket was wet and was weighing her down. When she reached where China's library was, she was surprised to see how it was repaired, but with obviously nearly empty shelves, but repaired nonetheless.

"Hello." China said emerging from behind one of the shelves. "I'm assuming you didn't come here to beat me up, and Skullduggery isn't here, which probably means he doesn't know that you're here."

"Yes. You're right. As always." Valkyrie grumbled with a scowl on her face.

"Here. Dry yourself off. Sit down. I have a story to tell you." China said smiling graciously handing her a towel.

"Where should I start?" China said with a thoughtful look on her face.

"Well, once upon a time, when we were young, Skullduggery and I, what you might call now, went out once-" But China was interrupted by a very loud gasp from Valkyrie.

"Yes, it might now be amazing. But we were separated because of family issues and the war. But I never stopped-what you might say-was loving him.

"Did you ever wonder why I brought his wife to Serpine? It was pure jealousy. It broke my heart when he got married."

Valkyrie suddenly remembered.

Skullduggery grunted and turned to Valkyrie. "Don't feel self-conscious. The first time anyone sets eyes on China, they fall in love. Believe me, the effect lessens the more you get to know her."

"Lessens," China said, "but never entirely goes away, does it Skullduggery?"

Skullduggery took off his hat and looked at China, but ignored her question.

China looked at her, her blue eyes bright, and she hugged Valkyrie. "Thank you for doing this," China said into her ear.

"I love it when you get commanding." China said with no trace of sarcasm.

Valkyrie gasped. "You've been dropping hints all the time, but he hasn't noticed the way you wanted! He thought that you wanted to just remind him of what happened! But you wanted him to notice you again!"

"Yes." China said with no emotion on her face. Then suddenly, tears leaked out of her face.

Valkyrie suddenly felt sorry for China, and gave her a comforting hug.

"Now you understand?" China said wiping away her tears and regaining her composure.

"Yes." Valkyrie whispered. "Be assured he will know why. Maybe I can convince him to forgive you."

"I hope so." China whispered hoarsely with her head down and tears freely streaming down her face in shame and sadness.

"Bye." Valkyrie called from the door.

China didn't even notice her dark figure disappearing.
