Claimer: I'm Michael Dante DiMartino, and I'm a co-creator of Avatar.

Got you there, didn't I?

I don't own Avatar. But I do own this idea.

Oh, and this was inspired by two sentences from Chapter 22 of "Balance" by Lady of the Silver Wheel, which I will post at the end of the story.

Oh, and the Gaang is on a flying Appa. Katara is asleep, and Aang is…dozing. Or something.

Sokka looked over at the younger girl with a concerned look on his face. "Toph, are you okay?" She yawned. "I'm just sooo…tired."

He smiled kindly at her. "Then maybe you should sleep,"

The embarrassed look on the Earthbender's face surprised Sokka. "I…can't."

He looked at her quizzically. "Why not?"

She shifted uncomfortably and mumbled something. Sokka leaned closer. "What was that?"

She sighed and said quietly. "I'm…scared. It's so high up here, and I can't see, and I'm afraid I'll fall off."

Sokka sat there for a moment, then said something softly. Now it was Toph's turn to lean in. "What? Even with my good hearing I couldn't understand that."

He cleared his throat and said, "I said that maybe you could sleep with me. I mean , I could make sure you don't fall off, and we could keep each other warm. And, you know, it's always comforting to…have someone… hold you," he finished lamely.

Suddenly Sokka was very conscious of how Toph might think of him saying something like that. She could get angry. Or there could be an awkward silence and things wouldn't be the same between them. But nothing prepared Sokka for what Toph did next.

Toph didn't know what caused her to do what she did, but what she did know was that what Sokka said made her very happy.

Impusively, and very un-earthbender-like, she kissed Sokka right on the lips and smiled.

"Alright. I'd like that." and snuggled up to Sokka. He was stiff for a moment, then smiled and hugged her close. They both easily fell to sleep, and Toph wasn't scared anymore.

"Toph hated flying. She couldn't sleep when they were that high off the ground……"

Like it? Hate it? Think it's cute? You know how to say what you think… Review!
