It's the first day of summer, and it feels like fall. Sometimes I wonder why I decided to stay in Forks, but then when I hear his voice it all makes sense. After getting back from Italy my life kind of went into lock down for awhile. This being the second I had to leave unexpectedly, Charlie is really coming down on me. I still get to see Edward, thought, at school and at night when he sneaks in to be with me.
I was yet another cloudy day and me and Jake were going to go ride are motorcycles for awhile. Every time I'm with Jake there seems to be tension, but the more and more I hang out with the less stiff I get. Jacob carefully put the bikes in the back of his truck, making sure to lay them down so no one got suspicious. "How have you been?" Jake asked me on the ride to the woods.
"Well, good I guess. I've been spending a lot of time with the Cullens, lately." I saw Jacob go rigid and pale out of the corner of my eye. It was stupid of me to bring them up, but I guess I keep thinking maybe he'll get used to it in awhile.
"Of course you have. I'm surprise they even let you go out with me anymore."
"Jake it's not like they control what I do," I said a little taken a back.
"Oh, Bella, please. Those bloodsuckers keep you on such a short leash I'm surprise they even let you go home."
"Jake, I keep telling you, please don't call them bloodsuckers. Just because you can't seem to control your monster as well as they can, and just because they have a cushy life, doesn't mean you can take your anger and incompetence out on them!" Harsh I know, those were two other things I probably shouldn't have brought up, but they were out of my mouth now. I couldn't stuff them back in.
"Bella," he said, his hands were shaking on the steering wheel, "why do you provoke this? You know I can't control my anger. But yet you always bring it up. Do you think that helps any? Well guess what it doesn't." He pulled over to the side of the road. "Get out of the car."
"What?"
"I said, get out of the car now, Bella." He screamed. I quickly undid my seat belt, opened the door and stepped out into the chilly June breeze. Jacob got out of the car too. His hands were shaking pretty badly now. His clothes were starting to rip, soon he would be full werewolf. I closed my eyes shut cursing what ever unknown power kept Edward from hearing my thoughts. Come help me, I screamed in my head knowing full well it would do no good. I opened my eyes to see Jacob standing over. I almost let out a small gasp but nothing came out of my mouth.
Then suddenly a blur of black and white knocked Jake off his feet, making him land hard on his back. Jake looked around to see who it was that had tripped him, it was Edward. Jacob took one look at him and ran off into the woods. No matter how angry he was, he wasn't going to break the treaty.
"How did you…?" I asked but I got cut off.
"I heard Jacob's thoughts, and came running." His eyes were as black as coal.
"It's ok Edward, he's gone now, and I'm safe. You can relax." I watched as his eyes went from black to the molten gold I loved so much.
"I can't leave you alone for more than an hour with out putting you in danger, can I."
"Not much you can do about that."
"Not unless I stay by your side forever. I'm never leaving Bella."
"I know."
