He is the Child of Prophecy.

Those six words filled Alexander Arc with a chill he never thought possible, and judging by the gobsmacked reaction of his wife, she felt the same.

"How can this be possible? I thought that the Child of Prophecy is -"

"Just a myth? Senseless ramblings from an old man?" the Elder Arc finished, a brief sense of amusement danced across her wrinkled features.

"So did everyone else. I can very much assure you however, that the Elder Sage's words are very much real." she explained to the couple, looking down at the blond haired bundle sleeping soundly in her arms.

"Hard to believe the future of Remnant lies in his little hands."

"Is there a possibility that Jaune isn't the Child of Prophecy? I mean, out of -" Claire was immediately silenced by the Elder.

"No, he is the one. I have lived a very long life, I have witnessed the birth and death of many Arc children, and none have given off the feeling that Jaune has. I know this is a lot to take in, and you're worried about his future, but whatever plan you think you're making, heed my advice: the future of Remnant lies with Jaune. He will possess The Gift, and will either lift Remnant into a new age of peace and prosperity or bring it to its knees. The outcome depends on how you choose to raise him." she gave her warning to the couple, before giving Claire her child back.

"Thank you for the words of wisdom, Lady Jane, we'll heed them well." with that, Alex bowed to his Elder, before he turned and left, with his wife following suit.

There was a silence that followed that followed the trio as they made their way through the Arc Compound. Claire placed a hand on her husbands arm, concern laced her face.

"What're you thinking, Alex?" her husband sighed, before scratching his forehead.

"What we have to, Claire. Being the Child of Prophecy is a heavy burden to bear, I don't like the idea of the dangers that Jaune will have to go through because of it, but at the same time if we shielded him from his destiny we'll be failing not only him, but as parents, and every single man, woman and child in Remnant."

"So what are we gonna do?" Claire asked.

"We'll keep this a secret from him, at least for a little while, and try and give him a normal childhood, and when the time comes, I'll tell him everything, and start his training." Claire nodded, seemingly placated with his choice.

"If that's what you thinks best, hun."

"It'll have to be, Claire. It'll have to be."

A Few Months Later…

Claire Arc was sure life could not get better than this. The brunette Arc matriarch has experienced a lot of things in her life, from the days spent with her family at Pacific Playland, to meeting Alex and their subsequent marriage, to her first pregnancy with her daughter. But this absolutely beats everyone of those memories, tenfold.

Because here was her beautiful, blonde haired blue-eyed five year old daughter Morgan, playing with her eight month old brother, Jaune. The sight of her two babies playing together made her heart swell with such a feeling of love she never thought possible. Morgan had baby Jaune on her lap, bouncing her legs up and down, much to the amusement of Jaune. Occasionally, Jaune would let out the typical babbles associated with babies. She heard her husband come up from behind her, settling for a place next to her.

"We've made some pretty good kids, haven't we?" Claire leaned her head against his shoulder, and closed her eyes, savouring the moment.

"Yeah, I'd say we did." it didn't last however, as a grimace crossed her features.

"But I'm worried, Alex, about the future." she felt him move and wrap his arm around her, squeezing her comfortingly.

"I know Claire, and so am I, but we have a few more years, at the very least, before we have to begin his training." when Alex finished, Morgan had noticed their presence and waved them over excitedly, a megawatt smile on her face. Claire felt her husband squeeze her arm once more before he went towards his children.

"Come on Claire, we should enjoy these moments while we can." she smiled before she went and followed.

"Look mama, look at how chubby his little cheeks are." to illustrate her point, Morgan grabbed her little brothers cheeks and pinched them, earning some giggles from Jaune.

Elsewhere in the Grimmlands…

She was biding her time. Salem had lived for several millennia, had watched kingdoms rise and fall. As such, she had viewed humanity with a vested interest, and as such she saw various humans rise to prominence, but there was one family which stood out from them all: the Arcs. She saw them as a ferocious and capable family, something she could personally attest to, witnessing them, with the backing of the damned Ozpin, thwart her plans numerous times, but for all the positive qualities that the Arcs possessed, they had a very dark side. They possessed a capacity for violence that was only second to hers, something which had been witnessed numerous times by humanity.

The Arcs were a lineage gifted with increased levels of aura, possessed great intellect, and a damning sense of charisma that made them natural leaders, all-in-all forces to be reckoned with. But not all Arcs however, had the goodness of humanity in heart, which led to numerous skirmishes between themselves, and/or the rest of the kingdoms, with results that have floored humanity, resulting in casualties and destruction that had left her wanting for more, and it all came to a head when Julius Arc III infamously stole The Gift from the highly classified Arc vaults and proceeded to shake up the foundations of Remnant, with its consequences still being felt thirty years after it happened. Tens of thousands of casualties, the near extinction of the Arcs and their subsequent exile and fall from grace.

And because of that, she has always sought to have a powerful Arc on her side, although for one reason or another it never worked out, which is why she found the words of the Elder Sage of Arc to be comforting. One day, an Arc child will be born with The Gift, and he will be the catalyst upon which decides the fate of Remnant. That day has come, once her spies had informed her of his birth, she was more than pleased that humanity's day of reckoning would seen be upon them. And now, she just has to wait a little bit longer until he awakens his powers for her to act, and once that happens, she will have her revenge, and all of Remnant will burn.

Hello there, it's me, ya boi. It's been quite a while, hasn't it? Roughly three years since I've first uploaded Jaune's First Mission, and two and a half years since I've updated it. JFM was my first ever try at the whole fanfiction thing, and have released eight more stories since. A lot's happened since then, I'm nearly done my first year of university - just two more exams to go, in fact - and I've learned quite a bit about trying to craft an engaging story, and I hope to have that with this story and all the rest to come.

I'll get you up to speed on the status on the rest of my stories. Jaune the SEAL has been axed. It was a poor attempt with little research on my part which would've done the servicemen whom the story was based off no justice, maybe I'll try and attempt another one like it in the future, but only after putting in numerous research.

The Great War will be revised slightly to make more details and events flow smoothly, but other than that expect nothing too major, in terms of change.

Arcstinction too, will be revised, same as TGW.

What Could've Been is a one-shot for now, although once the other stories are cleared up, it won't be a true story perse, in the sense that it follows the traditional format, but rather little one-shots that offer glimpses of what happened in no real order.

Arcs and Snowflakes, Please Don't Take My Sunshine Away, Choices We've Made, and Inseparable are all going to get updates in the future, with Inseparable being on the top of my priority list, aside from this story of course.

Until next time, it's ya boi, signing off.
