Chapter 1

Fiore, X769

"Huh… What's going on? Where am I? Better yet, who am I?" A brown-haired boy with brilliant amber eyes asked to no one in particular. He looked around and noticed he was in a field in the middle of nowhere. At a distance, he saw what appeared to be a burning village. The moment he saw it, he decided to investigate. But when he tried walking he suddenly tripped. When he looked down he saw a small lion cub with a flaming mane and a visor attached to its head looking at him.

The boy (who incidentally was three years old) picked up the cub and said, "What a strange cat." For some reason, the cub looked extremely shocked and hurt by that statement if the blue lines and the gaping mouth was anything to go by. The boy looked around and saw another curious looking object.

It was a sword. The boy picked up the sword and started to inspect it. He had to admit, the design was weird. Firstly, there was a broken blade. Secondly, at the end of the brown colored handle was what appeared to be the head of a lion. Thirdly, in the lion's eye sockets, there was a pair of rubies. Lastly, on the side of the handle was an inscription.

"Vongola X?" The boy read the inscription and tried to think of what does it mean. However, he suddenly dropped the sword and started to hold his head as his face scrunched up in pain. Images of people and places he knew started flowing into his head.

"Ciaossu, Dame-Tsuna, I am Reborn, the World's Greatest Hitman, and I am going to train you to become the tenth boss of the Vongola Crime Family."

"Hiee! I don't want to be a mafia boss."

"Just die."

"REBORN!"

"To think, a weak pansy like you is going to be the boss of the greatest family. Just die."

"I apologize for my actions, Juudaime. You are the only one fit to be the boss."

"Hahaha. This mafia game sounds fun, Tsuna."

"That was EXTREME, Sawada!"

"Hn. Omnivore."

"He really ain't my boss. But he is a great nii-chan."

"Kufufu. Remember, Sawada Tsunayoshi, one day I will take over your body."

"Don't worry. I will do my best, Bossu."

"Tsuna-kun. Please be careful."

"Hahi! Do your best, Tsuna-san."

"Tsu-kun, dinner is ready."

"My name is xxxx xxxxxx. Why did you save me? You know that I am a spy from the Costelli Famiglia. Don't think I owe you for this."

"That's okay, you owe me nothing. As for why I saved you, just take it as a whim of mine."

The boy now dubbed Tsuna smiled fondly at that memory. The day he met her.

"I'm sorry, xxxx, I'm sorry I couldn't protect you."

"That's okay. I'm pretty sure we will meet… a-g-ain. However, I want… you to promise me something."

"Anything."

"I don't want you to mourn me… I want you to live happily."

"This sword… was supposed to be a gift for your birthday…"

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!"

Tsuna's eyes were now completely filled with tears. He remembered that awful day. The day he lost his friends, his family and the only woman he loved and cherished. He continued crying for a while and in his grief, he did not notice a large shadow fly right above him.

Only when the shadow landed did he take notice of it. It was a large bird with beautiful red and golden feathers. 'Brilliant. Looks like I am the early worm for this bird.' Tsuna thought.

"Are you alright, child?" The bird asked, surprising Tsuna.

"Who are you?" Tsuna asked, trying to sound as intimidating as possible. However, when you are in the body of a three-year-old, that is rather tough (Unless you are Reborn, then it's as easy as eating pie). So, he decided to even release a bit of his killing intent. Once again, he might be in the body of a three-year-old, but his mind and experience are that of the thirty-five-year-old Vongola Decimo, who had seen the harsh and cruel reality of the mafia ever since he was thirteen years old.

"My name is Edna and I am the Queen of the Fire Phoenix," Edna replied promptly. She was a bit surprised at the killing intent being directed towards her. She could also sense something demonic within the child in front of her, something similar to what she sensed when she met the son of the Fire Dragon King, Igneel, four hundred years ago. However, this sensation felt more potent and eviler than that child. She could also see grief, anger, hatred, and rage in his moist eyes. Deciding to be cautious she asked slowly.

"Why are you crying child?"

"I COULDN'T SAVE THEM! I COULDN'T SAVE MY FRIENDS! I COULDN'T SAVE MY FAMILY! I COULDN'T PROTECT THE WOMAN I LOVED! THEY ALL DIED PROTECTING ME! SOMEONE AS PATHETIC AS ME! DAMMIT!" Tsuna screamed in rage, fresh tears now pouring out of his eyes

Edna honestly could not even fathom what pain this child could have gone through to make him so angry. To make him look as if he has lost all hope. She could easily tell that the boy in front of her was not from that burning village in the distance. He had no physical injuries, but she could tell that mentally he was going through a spiral of despair and self-loathing.

Normally, she never bothered herself with humans. All of them were too petty. Starting wars for the silliest things. But even her heartstrings were pulled when she saw the despair this child was in. Also, she was worried about that dark energy in the boy. She was worried that dark energy may consume him and turn him into a demon, who could be even worse than all of Zeref's demons combined. She could see the love he had for his friends and family, if their deaths reduced him to this state. Thus, she did the only thing she found logical. She comforted him. She turned into her human form and hugged the boy in the same way a mother would comfort her child. After he calmed down, she decided to ask him.

"Child, would you like to come with me?"

"Why?" Tsuna asked.

"I know I cannot replace your family. I also know I cannot bring back the people you have lost. However, I would never be able to forgive myself, if I just stood by and watch you further lose yourself in your despair. Also, if you would, I would also like to know what happened to you to lose your friends and family." Edna explained.

After hearing her explanation Tsuna mulled her words in his head. His intuition was telling him that she was telling the truth. Furthermore, he really had no clue about where he was, so he really had no reason to refuse.

"Sure. I really have no reason to refuse." Tsuna answered. Edna smiled at that answer.

"Just tell me one thing though, where is it on God's green Earth am I?" Tsuna asked.

"I shall tell you everything when we reach my place. Have you taken all of your belonging?" Edna asked.

"Just give me a moment… Yo, Nuts! Let's go." Tsuna called out to his partner.

"Gao~" Nuts replied.

After picking up his sword, gripping it tightly and making sure that Nut's was safely secured on his head. Tsuna gave a nod to Edna who changed back into her phoenix form and beckoned Tsuna to sit on her back. After making sure everyone was safe, she used her strong wings to fly towards her home.

Fiore, X774

It has been five years since Tsuna was taken under Edna's wing and she began to teach him Phoenix Slayer Magic. It was categorized as Lost Magic and came under the same class as the rest of the Slayer Magic. Edna had taught him the characteristics of all the other type of Slayer Magic, so he would not be caught off-guard in a fight.

Tsuna had already mastered the basics of Phoenix Slayer Magic in the span of one year. His experience with the Vongola Family's dying will flames had really helped him. In another three months, he recreated and mastered Zero Point Breakthrough: First Edition and Zero Point Breakthrough: Revised. Edna was really surprised to learn that Fire could be used in such a way. She was really proud of her son for achieving something that she would have definitely written off as baloney.

Now five years later Tsuna was standing in front of his mother who, judging by her expression had something important to tell him.

"Tsuna can we talk for a moment?" asked Edna.

"Sure Mama. What's up?" Tsuna asked

"Tsuna, you have grown a lot in the past five years. I was planning on doing this later but when I take into account the fact that you have managed to create ice from fire and have also managed to invent your own kind of magic to suit your style, I changed my mind. I believe it is time for you to leave the nest and experience the real world. It is a tradition followed by us Phoenix's, however, it is not something we do often, due to our eternal life." She paused for a moment, allowing the news to sink in. Tsuna stared at her with wide eyes. He knew he would leave at some point in his life, but he did not expect it to be this soon.

"I prepared some gifts that you will need for your journey." Said, Edna, while handing a few items to him. The items were a pair of black half-fingered gloves and a Lion handle sword in a sheath.

Tsuna put the gloves on and noticed that they were extremely comfortable. After that, he inspected the sword and found it to be the same broken sword he had always used. Only this time the handle was polished and it was in a sheath.

"The gloves are made from my feathers. They are designed to always fit you. Also, if you channel your magic something cool will happen. Go on, give it a try." Edna prodded.

As Tsuna channeled his magic through the gloves, he noticed that it started glowing. A moment later he saw the result. His gloves turned into a black-colored gauntlet with red and orange streaks on it. On the back of each hand was a golden colored 'X'. This gauntlet honestly reminded Tsuna of his Vongola Gear Version X.

"Cooooooooool!." Said Tsuna with stars shining in his eyes.

"I knew you would like it. I'm so proud of myself." Edna said with a smile, taking pride in the work she did.

"Now listen, as I have already told you the first time we met, the name of this planet is Earthland and we are in a country called the Kingdom of Fiore in a continent called Ishgar. If you cross the sea, you will reach the western continent of Alakitasia. However, the only empire there is the Alvarez Empire, you can call them the current superpower of this world. Just like the country you call the United States of America from the world you are originally from. They have the strongest military and the latest in cutting-edge military equipment." Edna said seriously, however, Tsuna noticed something.

" Yes, I know. You told me everything about this world when we met. You also told me about every kingdom and empire in Earthland. Remind me why are you telling this to me again, except for the plot exposition that is." Tsuna asked. However, Edna did not answer his question and looked away.

"Mom… What's wrong?" Tsuna already had a hunch, due to his demonic (It's Hyper!) intuition, but he still had to ask. He did not like seeing his mother in such a state.

"I'm just worried about you," Edna said.

Tsuna opened his mouth to say something but Edna raised her hand to stop him from speaking before continuing, "Especially after what you went through in your previous life. I know you still suffer from nightmares of that day. I have heard you scream and shout many times in the night. Screaming that your family is spared. Sobbing after that. As a mother, what else do you expect me to do if not worry"

This time, Tsuna had no answer. He knew better than to deny what his mother said because it was true. Even after five years he still suffered from nightmares. Every time he relived all of their deaths. And all of them died in the worst ways possible. Tsuna knew because he was there. However, the worst was seeing her death. Every time he saw how the light left her eyes, he would always wake up to find himself shaking and his eyes filled with tears. After which he would always start crying.

Edna was the only one who could see through her sons' cheerful façade and devil-may-care attitude he started to adopt with the other children of the Phoenix Village. Edna knew that was his way of dealing with his loss and frankly, she knew she could do nothing about it, except provide him a mother's comfort whenever he needed it.

"Don't worry Mom. I will be fine. I'll also make sure to write to you." Tsuna said with a small smile on his face, hoping that he will be able to cheer her up.

"Very well. I shall hold you on that offer, Tsuna." Edna said with a small smile on her face.

After deactivating his new gloves, Tsuna left to pack his things. Within an hour he was done and was now standing in front of his mother while wearing his favorite outfit: A jet-black suit with a bright orange shirt, a loose black tie, and black combat boots. Reborn had made sure to hammer it into his head that mafia bosses always dress in style. NO. MATTER. WHAT. So here he was wearing this outfit as his standards of casuals had gone up ever since he became Vongola X. Edna had already turned into her human form so that she could hug him properly.

"I'm going to miss you, Mom." Tsuna said, trying but failing to keep his voice from cracking.

"Me to son. Me to." Edna replied, going through the same emotions as her child. "You should know that you will always be welcome back over here. And make sure to visit whenever you can. I will also inform everyone in the village that you have left."

Tsuna nodded and broke the hug. With nothing else to say he took his sword and backpack and made it disappear into another dimension (Yes. Tsuna knows the very basics of Requip and Summoning) and left after giving a final smile to his mother. His trusty partner Nuts was already snuggled comfortably on his head.

After that he pulled out a piece of paper, which had a list of all the guilds in Fiore and Ishgar. Since he knows magic he might as well join a guild. But first, he needed money.
