Sebastian's face was wet with tears as they walked the coast to Isabela's ship. He was seething with anger, staring down Bethany Hawke as if she was the one who had started all this.
Well, she kind of did.
Everyone knew over the past few years how she and Anders got on. They frequently wrote one another, and in time had developed a love for one another. He had asked her to find a powerful explosive recipe in the circle's books and she gave it to him without second thought, effectively sealing the deal and giving him the second to last bit of aid he needed to start this Maker-forsaken revolution.
Garrett held his sister close at his side, her head resting on her shoulder as she quietly sobbed beside him, walking slowly to keep from falling to the ground with grief.
Although she had been the one to aid him, she had also been the one to take his life.
"If anyone else kills him, he will look a martyr. At least this way, he will truly be just a madman." Anders shoulders slumped but he said not a word as her magic shot through him, ending his madness right there for all to see.
Bethany could feel the stare from Sebastian burning into the back of her head, and she turned to him.
"Are you fucking happy with yourself, Sebastian? Did you get everything you wanted? Or do you want me dead, too?" She growled, smacking her staff hard against the ground, the air suddenly growing thick with magical energy.
"You could have told us. We could have stopped him. It never had to go that far. Good men, women and children died today, mage and otherwise because of that damned fool's cause. Tell me, was that worth all of this? He took away everything your brother - all of us fought for and you just sat back and let it happen."
Garrett eyed the exchange warily, too exhausted from the fight with Meredith to even butt in, unless the exchange got violent. Fenris stood beside him, taking his hand and squeezing it. "This was bound to happen sooner or later. Let's just see where this goes." Garrett nodded, not even wishing to gather the energy to reply. He just wanted to get on that ship and get out of here already.
"MAKER DAMN YOU, SEBASTIAN!" Bethany screeched, crossing the distance and slapping him across his cheek. He grabbed her wrist then, and finally witnessed the hurt that lay deep within those light brown eyes.
He remembered how Garrett chuckled about how just one look from those eyes could make him forget everything and succumb to her will, and he remembered those early days when they worked on him all the same. He felt himself melt, and his heart truly ached for her.
Maker forgive me, I have been wrong to place the blame upon her. Give me the strength now to make this right.
"Forgive me, Bethany. You couldn't have known. None of us did. I have misplaced my anger." His blue eyes met hers, and he wondered if he had the same effect on her with her posture softened, and the magic in the air faded away.
She slipped her wrist from his grasp, and fell back into a sob.
It was Sebastian's turn to cross the distance, taking her into his arms and whispering silent prayers for Anders, for her, for all of them.
There was much to do, but as Garrett jested, no matter what was going on, there was always time for Bethany.
Even Sebastian knew that.
Fenris and Garrett turned to each other in shock, giggling like idiots and turning to walk away, giving the two more Maker-devoted, highly irrational individuals this time together.
"You were right, love. It was bound to happen, sooner or later."
