Hi guys! YellowShadess here with a new story! Its a dark one Shot. I hope you like it. -J.A.
Kate sat on the railing of the High bridge. Taking in the cool winter breeze. She took a shot of the tequila in the flask that she held. Nothing was right in the world. Her mother was murdered 11 months ago, her dad drowns his sorrows in alcohol and piss drunk nights and she was left with no one.
The bridge seemed deserted tonight. Only a car passing by now and then. She wasn't surprised by that. It was late at night and this bridge wasn't very crowded to begin with. She took one last swig of her drink and threw her flask into the river. It took a while for it to hit the water. 'Good' she thought. 'It will be quick.' She took a deep breath. She continued to stare at the water that would soon take her life. She looked at the stars and nodded. She heard someone come up behind her. She didn't look at the stranger.
"Excuse me. Are you okay?" A male voice said to her. She took a deep breath and spoke.
"No. I'm not. My life is a mess and I will not take it anymore. So if you don't want to see me die I suggest getting back into you car and leaving me alone." Tears were flowing freely. The man took a step closer and spoke softly to Kate.
"Listen. I can't leave you here. Especially knowing that you're going to commit suicide. Come down from there and talk to me. I know you don't know me but I'm a very good listener." He flashed a smile. Kate bowed her head and turned towards the mysterious man. She looked up and was met by a tall, muscular, ruggedly handsome man with warm blue eyes. She quickly turned back towards the river and spoke again.
"You don't want to listen to my problems. You probably have better things to do. Just let me be so I can find the peace I've been desperately trying to find for almost a year now."
He stepped closer to Kate, making sure not to scare her. He gently put his arms around her shoulders and tried to guide her away from her death.
She felt his strong arms wrap around her shoulders and steer her away from the river. She was too weak and depressed to fight.
He pulled her off the ledge and walked her towards his car. She broke down before they made it to the car. He sat with her and soothed her until she calmed down a little bit. She looked up at the man who was cradling her and smiled.
"Thank you. If it wasn't for you I would be dead." He smiled at her and extended his hand.
"I'm Rick." She took his hand and shook it.
"I'm Kate."
"Come on, let's go grab a bite to eat and you can tell me what's up." He said. She nodded and walked with him to his car. They got in and drove off.
