Disclaimer: I don't own Narnia or any characters you may recognize from the books or the movies, I wish I did but I don't... I also don't own the Narnian Calendar. It belongs to Elecktrum who was kind enough to let me borrow it for my story. Her own stories are awesome and you should go read them too.
Summary: "For my love, a Christmas rose."
A/N: This is part of my A Light in the Darkness universe. Enjoy!
For My Love, a Christmas Rose

It was nearing noon when I entered our bedroom, but my sweet wife was still abed. Of course, she had stayed up quite late after Father Christmas had surprised our Christmas Eve feast. Quietly approaching our bed, I leaned down and pressed a kiss to her temple.
My wife stirred then opened her eyes as she stretched, "Is it morning already?"
I chuckled, "It's noon, lass."
Her eyes widened with shock, "Noon? But, I can't have slept that late."
I set one hand on her shoulder as I pressed a kiss to her cheek, "You did stay up quite late." I moved my hand to her rounded stomach, grinning when a strong kick greeted me, "And you are entitled to be a slugabed since you are very busy taking care of this little one."
She laughed softly, "The way this little one kicks I am certain we will have a fine son." Her lovely brow furrowed when she noticed I was still keeping one hand behind my back, "What are you hiding?"
Grinning I pulled out my hand and the look of pleased surprise on her face filled me with pride as she gasped. I bowed and presented the flower with a flourish, "For my love, a Christmas rose."
She reached out one slim hand and lightly pulled the frost-covered rose from my grasp. She needn't fear for thorns as I had already de-thorned the stem. She smiled then balanced on her knees, throwing her arms around my neck, "Oh, it's wonderful. How did you ever find it? I thought the roses had their last bloom months ago."
I chuckled and wrapped my arms around her, "Well, Nellie girl, I don't know how but there were roses blooming this morn on the north side of Cair Paravel, not even five steps from where Father Christmas himself had left his sleigh last night."
My Nellie brushed her brown hair out of her eyes then smiled, "What a wonderful Christmas surprise! Oh Frank, I do believe I should like to see these winter roses for myself."
I raised a hand, "First, you will eat something then, after you are well-wrapped against the cold, I will take you to see them."
Nellie giggled and kissed me, "Oh, Frank, you worry too much." She raised the rose and took another deep whiff of its fragrance, "Do you think the roses will bloom every winter?"
I spread my arms wide, "In this wonderful land, a chap wouldn't be the least bit surprised to find it to be so. Now, I will bring my lovely queen her meal."
"Don't forget a vase for the rose, Frank."
"Yes, Nellie."

According to legend, the reason there are a cluster of rose bushes on the north side of Cair Paravel that bloom each winter is that they were Father Christmas's gift for King Frank the First and Queen Helen on their first Christmas in Narnia as a tribute to their great love. For, as everyone knows, love is the greatest Christmas gift of all. And every year, even to this very day, the roses bloom in Yule just in time for Christmas. May Aslan grant we all experience such a love as that which is commemorated by Queen Helen's Yule roses.
