More days passed and Delphine continued, without success, to find a cure for Cosima. She was always worn out yet she was never able to sleep. All she did was worry. She worried every time Cosima went to the bathroom, because most of the time she went to cough blood into the sink, trying unsuccessfully to hide it from her. She worried when she saw that Cosima barely touched her food every meal she would make her. She just worried every damn seconds since she had gotten the beautiful brunette back in her life and that wasn't going to stop until she finds a cure. Throughout the course of her career as an immunologist, Delphine had seen only a small amount of cures being found compared to multitude diseases killing patients after patients, though then it was to people who were nothing more than strangers to her. She was used to see people come and go, but this time was different. It wasn't anyone who was sick, it was her girlfriend. And whatever was killing Cosima, was in a way slowly killing her too.
Sighing, she shut down the screen of her laptop and leaned back on the couch. It was no use to continue this tonight, her feelings toward the whole situation were only clouding her judgment, and besides she deserved a break.
She stood up and walked toward the kitchen, wrapping her arms around Cosima's waist when she reached her. Luckily, Cosima had felt better this evening and hadn't cough actual blood since this morning, so she had decided to make herself useful and wash some dishes.
"You should get some rest, ma chérie" Delphine breathed softly onto Cosima's neck before placing a longing kiss there.
"Mhmm" The shorter woman put down the mug and the towel she had in her hands on the counter and faced the blonde without breaking their intimate embrace. "So should you baby, you've been working like a demon and you're exhausted. I just feel so bad."
Delphine shook her head. "Don't. I promised you I'd find a cure and I will. But tonight I need to feel like you're safe. Please come to bed with me, I need to hold you in my arms."
They had been lying in bed, limbs entangled and minds a little more at ease for about 30 minutes or so. Neither of them could sleep. Seemingly, their minds unconsciously stopped them from falling asleep, never wanting this moment to end.
Delphine took this opportunity to capture Cosima's lips in a slow, yet very needing kiss. The brunette kissed her back a moment before pulling away when she figured out the other woman's intentions.
"Everything okay, mon coeur?" Delphine searched for Cosima's eyes but they were looking away from her. "Tell me."
"I don't think I can do this Delphine," the brunette started. Tears had begun to well in her eyes. "What if, what if I start coughing right in the middle and turn you off. This isn't sexy, I'm not se-."
The blonde put a finger on her girlfriend's lip, stopping her from saying any more absurdities. "Cosima look at me," Delphine dried the tear on her cheek as she did. "I want to make love to you because you need the release more than anything else right now. It's just us here, it's not about making it look a certain way, it's about making you feel good. If at some point something happens or you feel uncomfortable and you want to stop, then we'll stop. But please Cosima, I love you, nothing could ever turn me off from you. Please just let me."
Cosima smiled and shook her head in disbelief. "How did I get so lucky with you?" She tugged at the blonde's body until it was on top of her and wrapped her arms around her neck. "Make love to me."
