CHOICES
When you run into my arms,
We steal a perfect moment,
Let the monsters see you smile,
Let them see you smiling,
"Well, Nathalia, what is your choice?"Caius glared at me and in that instance I knew I didn't have a choice. This coven – this family – was destined to die. It was them or me.
"Please!"The young one murmured, holding onto the child in her hand tighter than before. I knew my choice immediately, as I saw the pain, the fear, in her eyes.
"Let them live, they've done nothing wrong, if you-"
"Nathalia, I would choose wisely if I was you. Make the wrong decision, and it will be your title as Volturi princess that will die. And if you remember how and why you became the princess, you will realise that this is a choice between your life and theirs."Caius hissed at me. I realised then what he wanted. It wasn't my life at stake here. Oh no, that wasn't it. It was my power. My potential: being frozen at sixteen, but still human, with the power to kill at my fingertips.
"Caius, I feel the need to interrogate this coven of sorts, a little more. Leave me or I may have to give you something to drink."I smiled icily around the room, my eyes stopping at Carlisle.
"Nathalia, what're you doing?"He murmured.
"Carlisle, this is not a coven. This is a family," I felt a single tear trickle down my cheek, or should I say, a single deadly drop of poison. "If I had the choice of joining you or destroying you, I'd choose the first, of course! I'm looking at something amazing here. You have a son who has a daughter and a wife. And that daughter has a husband and children. One day, those children will have children. It's an eternal cycle!"
"What you're trying to say is, you're going to let yourself die because this is what you want?"Carlisle gestured around him. I couldn't speak, I just nodded sullenly.
"Why not, why can't you have this?"Edward spoke for the first time.
"B-because. This is something I chose!"I threw the tiny silver tiara I'd been wearing constantly for eleven years onto the floor. "I chose this above death. In my own selfish bid to stay alive, I chose to be a princess. I chose to be a prisoner."
"But you have power. You could run away. Be free."The young one, Renesmee, was staring at me sympathetically.
"No! You've been alive for eleven years now, correct?"I asked. The girl nodded once. "I've been alive, hiding, for two thousand years. And now, for a mere ten years of that, I've been given this power. I'm not trusted. I've not got control of that power. Aro and Caius and Markus would destroy me in a second if I ever turned on them. I don't have a family to go to, even if I did run!"I was yelling now, and I knew I only had minutes before Caius decided my time was up.
"What are you going to do?"Edward asked. You need to run, I thought at him, and run fast. You know the way out, they have no guards. Just go!
Carlisle, Edward and their family crept out of the castle. Then they were gone. One boy, about my age but with huge muscles, looked back. A single tear dropped down my cheek; I caught it on my finger. My poison affected anyone who swallowed it, including myself. I touched my finger to my mouth, and then it was over.
"What are you doing, stop!"I heard the boy yell, but it was too late. My head burned and I knew I was gone.
"I don't know you, but I love you."I whispered, and then it was over.
