Garnet normally didn't go through the other gem's areas of the temple. After all, it was their area for a reason. She had no business being down there, just as they had no business being in her area. It was a simple as that.

However, she could make an exception, just this once.

She found herself wondering aimlessly around Amethyst's space. It felt a little weird, to be perfectly honest. But Amethyst's comments had made an effect on her. She wanted to do this.

It had been a very stressful day. Their youngest member had almost died, due to having, what could only be described as a "extremely premature midlife crisis." But all had turned out well. Steven didn't die. They made it through the crisis, just like they always did.

They had tucked Steven into bed, and the boy was getting some much needed rest. Pearl had also retired to her chamber. The day was just a little bit too emotionally draining.

Only Garnet and Amethyst remained in the kitchen. They sat in silence, both of them picking at some food. Even though their bodies didn't need food to survive, sometimes food was just a nice way to relax. Especially on nights like this.

It was a simple comment that had come from Amethyst, "Birthdays aren't so bad."

Garnet looked up from her plate, "Hmm?"

Amethyst shrugged, laughing a little bit, "I dunno. Its kinda nice having a day to celebrate your existence. I think we take our existence for-granted, sometimes."

Amethyst looked up a Garnet. The red gem wore the same un-readable expression she always had. Amethyst laughed a little bit.

"Maybe. I dunno," she continued, "I'm just rambling. It's been a long day."

But Garnet heard every word.

Garnet finally found the purple gem. Amethyst was sleeping on a pile of miscellaneous things, completely dead to the world. Garnet almost laughed. For someone who's body didn't need sleep, Amethyst slept a lot.

Garnet let out a smile, watching the gem sleep. She was always so rambunctious, it was funny seeing her look so peaceful.

A soft light glowed from Garnet's hands, materializing a cake in her hands. A simple chocolate cake, with a single, lit candle in the center.

Garnet gently placed it next to the purple gem. Amethyst's eyes started to flutter open, as she looked up at the red gem. She stared, confused, before looking at the cake by her side.

"A birthday cake?" She asked.

"I don't take your existence for-granted." Garnet said simply, before turning to walk away.

Amethyst could only watch as her friend exited her room. She looked back at the cake. A large smile crossed the purple gem's face.

It was the best birthday gift ever.

I felt like writing something really fluffy, and so this short came to be. I usually write about Pearl and Rose, so I wanted to write something with Garnet and Amethyst. I'll probably write stuff with them more, cause this was really fun to write. I hope you all enjoyed. And don't worry. Control & Chaos, and Gem Noir will be updated soon.

Thanks for reading!
