(My first shot here...Hope you guys like it.

May just leave it as a one-chapter for now)

If only my jaw had been activated, I could bite the finger that was brushing along my chin.

"My precious project..." he cooed softly, flicking his black bangs out of the way. Yes, all I was, was his project. I wanted to claw the smug look off of his face so badly. The reinforced steel claw implants would help with that... I could just imagine the sweet red flowing down his face... That would be when my imprisonment would be over. My natural paws tingled in anticipation and excitement.

I would only have to wait until he powered up my limbs. Both left paws were immobilized, not to be moved until he entered the code in his stupid little machinery. I'm thinking he only worked on one side of my body, as all of my modifications are on that side. A scanner sat over my left eye, and it drives me crazy. One can only see so much with one eye and a stiff, restrained neck.

He snapped me out of my thoughts by running his fingers through my fur for what seemed like the millionth time, carefully stroking each bit of soft lavender fur. This irritated me a lot...he always stroked so slowly and gently, and I hate it. His pale skinned hand moved to the ruby stone embedded just between my eyes. That's where this idiot implanted a microchip deep within my skull. I enjoyed the extra intelligence, but it still showed I was only his project. Nothing more.

Not for long.

After setting me in my giant test tube, my bed, he finally left my little 'room'. If that's what you could call it. Large monitors covered the walls, and several colorful buttons flashed beneath. A mechanical table sat in the middle, that was where I had been standing. Several electric cords and wires snaked across the floor in an unorderly fashion. This was where I had been living for 3 years... The room disappeared as my mind took over.

"Lavie!" my mother shrieked as the tight hands picked me up by the fur collar. I was in danger, but so was each one of my littermates. My mother and father. I had to protect them.

"I'll find you again." I mouthed to my mother, but I'll never be sure if she saw. She started after the humans that had grabbed me, snarling as many curses as her breath would allow. She never saw the metal pellet flying at her. Her eyes widened as blood streamed slowly from the hole that had been left through her forehead. She crumpled to the ground; the bullet had shot straight through her. Through her brain.

I knew she was dead from the vacant, glassy stare she was giving me.

I was back in the room now. The dullness and gray of this room and the eerie green glow was driving me insane... at least the calendar on the opposite wall gave me some comfort.

Tomorrow, June 17th was circled in red. Some messy writing had been scrawled underneath, but 'my' human had recited it to me so many times I knew what it said.

TEST DAY. PROJECT DUE ON 17TH.

The day my path to freedom would begin.
