Disclaimer: No, I do not own Lord of the Rings, or any copyrighted work for that matter. I just write down the words that run through my head…
This is a kind of re-write of an earlier poem, with the same title, which I deleted in order to make better and canonical. I hope I did okay; I re-read some stuff and did borrow and integrate some of the phrases from the appendices of Lord of the Rings; see what you think.
In Gondor,
In the House of Kings
Where death weighs heavy on the air
Aragorn spoke one word,
"Farewell!"
And passed beyond, how long, how far?
The king is dead,
The queen remains,
Crying of hope with eyes now dark.
She leaves her children
Grieving still
And journeys on, how long, how far?
To Lorien
Beneath the trees
Who still remember elven songs.
In shadowed light
Of winter dawn
Where memory calls, how long, how far?
In silent lands
She dwelt alone
Bearing the anguish of mortality.
For love there is a price
To pay
Beyond death's shores, how long, how far?
When leaves fell
Golden as god's tears
Arwen walked cross glade and glen,
To Cerin Amroth
Where once
They pledged to love, how long, how far?
Bitter is
The Doom of Men
Bitter Arwen's grief in Lorien.
"I died for love,"
Said Evenstar
And then she fell, how long, how far?
Far enough
And long enough
For sorrow, but not for despair.
Because for love
There is no price
That is too much payment for the lover.
Whatever the fate
Of those who pass
Beyond the circles of the world,
I hope in darkness
Arwen walks
Beside the soul of Aragorn.
A/N: Just back to say that you should hit the pretty button right there, you know the one with the green letters on it? c'mon. It's a love story. Review the love story, people!
