Ron had always felt something besides friend ship when his thoughts turned to Harry. Usually it was jealousy, because Harry was special, and Ron was not. Harry had been chosen, idolized, and followed through out his entire life. Ron had not.
Sometimes it was pleasure, but not a good pleasure. A bad kind of pleasure, the kind that made Ron feel terrible for feeling it. He felt pleasurable because he had what Harry had never had. A family.
But right now, the only thing he felt was emptiness. He had seen Harry's limp body, and everything else faded away. Half of himself was gone. He found himself listening for Harry's laugh, his voice. Ron suddenly felt like he would never be the same. He regretted all of those fights, his anger. He regretted the envy, the pleasure. He regretted not being there for Harry when he needed him most.
Hermione was shocked. She needed him. Needed him just as much as Ron. She felt horrible. She had seen the looks Harry gave them. She had seen the worry. She knew he felt scared, lonely. He was afraid that if she and Ron ever got to together, he would be left behind.
She had always meant to tell him that they both needed him just as much as she and Ron needed each other.
But now it was too late. He was gone. Gone forever. She would never hear his frantic plans, or see his hand jump to his scar. Never again would she see him look sad, or angry, or happy. He had had so few happy moments in his life. It was unfair that he was gone before he had even started.
Ginny was crying. Never again would he look at her with a secret smile, as if the world was fine as long as she was there. Never again would her hand become tangled in his dark hair. She would never look up and see his vibrant green eyes full of love and concern.
She would never have her dreams come true of marriage, children, grand children.
She felt as if what she had been longing for had come true, only to be ripped away again.
Ginny Weasely knew that for as long as she lived, she would never love someone as much as she had loved Harry Potter.
