Smile
Nozomu Itoshiki was desperately trying to ignore the raised hand that belonged to none other than Kafuka Fuura. It was becoming increasingly difficult task.
"Yes Kafuka." He said begrudgingly. He could only imagine the horrible and frighteningly optimistic thoughts that would soon come out of her mouth.
"Pink Supervisor, I think you should smile more." Nozomu used a great deal of self control resisting the urge to go hang himself right then.
"No. Smiling indicated happpiness, and as we all know, there is nothing in this world to be happy about. In fact, I think that -"
He was abrupptly cut of by Kafuka, "But If you smiled more you might stop trying to grow taller." At this moment he had come up with several new ideas to end his life, but nevermind that.
"I don't try to grow taller. I was clearly trying to end my sad and terribly pathetic life by hanging myself from a-" And again he was cut off.
"Maybe if you smiled, you could make other people happy as well. I believe that happiness is spread from person to person."
"Like the flu?" Asked Nozomu.
"No, not like that. But really you should try to smile more often."
"No." Came the predictable reply.
"I'll stop calling you Pink Supervisor." She offered.
"Fine, I guess. But only because my life is wretched anyways. I have nothing to life for. Is that what I've been reduced to? I am in despair!"
After his brief melodramatic monoluge, he tried smiling. Only he couldn't quite figure out how. Instead what expression came out was a sort of twised sadistic looking glare. It was as close as he could get.
"Actually Pink Supervisor," began Kafuka, "I don't think smiling is for everyone." That may have been the most rational and un-optimistic statement ever to come out of her mouth.
And it was true.
