I love Covert Affairs, and I especially love the Annie/Auggie pairing. So here's a little one-shot dedicated to them. Please review!
Disclaimer: I don't own Covert Affairs, or else Annie and Auggie would be together!
As soon as Joan heard the unfamiliar sound of laughter in the office, she knew Auggie was with Annie in the room she was about to enter.
"Annie I need to talk to you," she announced upon her arrival.
The younger girl looked surprised, but quickly recovered, taking a sip of water. "Okay, I'm all ears."
This caused Auggie and Annie to start laughing again, louder this time.
Joan cleared her throat and shifted uncomfortably; the smile on Annie's face only made what she was about to say that much harder.
"We just got a call from some operatives out in Spain," the head of the DPD took a deep breath before continuing. "They found a rogue agent."
"Alright, but what does that have to do with me?"
"The agent's name was Ben Mercer."
"Really?" The smiled was still plastered on Annie's face. "Is he here? Can I see him?"
"Annie," Auggie tried to warn her. He understood what Joan was trying to say.
"Annie," Joan repeated. "They found his body."
The smile instantly fell from her face. "He's dead?"
Her boss nodded sympathetically.
"I, I need a second," Annie said, running out of the room with a slam.
"I'd better go check on her," Auggie said, breaking the silence left by Annie.
"Tell her to take her lunch break early," Joan said as she followed him out the door.
Auggie knew Annie would be on the roof; a place that both of them would go whenever they were upset about something.
"Careful, there's some broken glass," he heard her warn upon entering the roof.
He smirked as he sat down next to his best friend. "What did you break?"
"A vase," she answered rather guiltily. "But it looked like a cheap one."
He laughed. "Are you sure it wasn't the one of a kind, Parisian vase Arthur got for Joan?"
Annie sighed, frustrated. "What am I going to do Auggie?"
Auggie let out a breath of air and Annie watched him as he put together his thoughts. "Well, I know a guy who's pretty handy with a glue gun. How many pieces is the vase currently in?"
"You know that's not what I'm talking about," she said softly.
"Come here," Auggie said, holding out his arms.
"You're not going to flip me, are you?" She asked warily.
He smirked at the thought; it certainly would be the definition of a surprise attack. "Just trust me."
Annie slowly wound her arms around Auggie's neck and ever so gently, leaned her head against his chest.
She was about to ask how in the world this was going to help her, when suddenly she felt tears running down her cheeks.
Auggie just rocked her back and forth, letting her bawl. He never uttered a single comforting word, his presence alone being all the comfort she needed.
"I loved him so much," Annie said at last. She pulled away from Auggie and wiped the last remaining tears away. "How did you know that was what I needed?"
"When the accident first happened, everyone kept telling me how sorry they were, and that everything was going to be okay. And all I wanted was for them to just shut up and hug me," he smiled thoughtfully.
And then, before Auggie could react, he felt a soft pair of lips pressed against his own.
"Thank you," Annie whispered, leaning her forehead against his.
