Set after Hoyt's death and after Jane's birthday party.
After the party, Maura decided to stay with Jane for the night. They have had a rough day, first they solved a cold case which involved a family of four getting killed by Hoyt and second they had been almost killed by him. Jane had never been so scared in her entire life, she had almost been killed, but what was even worse was that Maura was almost killed. If she hadn't killed Hoyt, she and Maura wouldn't have lived now. Jane realised today that she shouldn´t be afraid of telling Maura that she loved her, that if she didn't Maura would eventually find someone else to spend her life with. Jane wanted to be that person.
"Jane, what is it? Are you okay? Are you thinking about Hoyt? He is dead, Jane, he can't hurt you anymore."
"I'm fine, it's not Hoyt. I have to tell you something important and I've wanted to tell you for a long time but I was afraid of your reaction, or I still am."
"What is it, Jane? You don't have to be afraid of my reaction, just tell me." Maura said calmly.
"Maura, do you remember the Fairfield case?" At Maura's nod, she continued. "You thought I was angry at you and I was but I was mostly jealous. I was jealous of Garrett, when he held you, I could see that he still loved you and I didn't like that one bit. I realised then that I had feelings for you, I still have but back then it was a crush but now I'm in love with you. I hope that you can forgive me. When Hoyt hurt me, I didn't care but then he went after you and I couldn't let that happen not without telling you that I love you so I fought him and I killed him." Jane finished with a shuddering voice, she felt like crying.
A few minutes later she had the courage to look at Maura, who had been very silent since she revealed her secret and Jane saw that she was crying. She felt like comforting her and to tell her that they can still be friends even if it is going to hurt. Suddenly she felt a pair of lips on her, it took her a while to realise that Maura was kissing her. When she realised that, she immediately kissed Maura back.
The kiss was slow and passionate, but it felt like they had been kissing for years. Their tongues met, it felt magic, and they both moaned at the taste and tender touch. They stood like that for a long time but then air became an issue and they broke apart, gasping for air. They looked at each other intently and they knew if they continued kissing like that, it could lead to other things they weren't ready for. They went to bed and they continued to look at each other, until Maura finally spoke.
"Jane, I love you so much. I always have."
"I love you too."
"Will you hold me while we sleep?" Maura asked with a hint of need in her voice.
Jane just nodded, kissed Maura's forehead and went to cuddle her from behind. They immediately fell asleep.
