Ever since he can remember, he sometimes gets this feeling like he's forgetting something. Not just a simple thing, like forgetting to turn off the oven, or lock a door, but something essential, something life altering.
As someone who prides himself on his abilities and his memory, this is an exceptionally annoying feeling. He knows, logically, that he hasn't forgotten anything. He wouldn't in the first place, and even if he did, his assistant would remind him, or he would notice it in his notes, or he would at least remember it eventually.
The most bothersome part is that he has no idea why the feeling comes on. It will on occasion just because he sees a telephone box, or a celery stick, or a fez. Random objects bring the feeling on, and all he can do is sit there and wrack his brain, trying to come up with something he knows isn't there.
He has the feeling again, as he sits in the back of his car, his assistant typing away on her phone at his side, and he wishes he could remember. He grips his pocket watch subconsciously, and he wishes, more than anything, that he could remember.
