Spence sat alone in her dorm room.

"I just wanted to be useful to C-c-c-Commander," she whispered quietly to herself.

Why can't I do anything right? She had failed, once again. If she hadn't been so scared... the battle would haven't gone so badly. She would have made Commander proud. She wouldn't have been an embarrassment to Commander. Burying her face into her pillow, the Fletcher-class destroyer couldn't stop the tears from rushing out. She sobbed for several seconds before she heard a loud, distinct knock.

"Is everything alright there Spence? You've been in there for awhile. Do you want to come with me to the canteen to get some food?" said the muffled voice of the Commander on the other side of the door.

"Ahh C-Commander! S-S-Spence is just tired, that's all!" Spence replied hurriedly. "Please do worry! Y-you have other p-priorities to attend to." There was a short moment of silence.

"Okay then," said the Commander. "Get some rest and I'll see you tomorrow.."

After glancing through the peep-hole to ensure the Commander had left, Spence began to cry again. Even when he knows I failed, he acts like nothing happened, she thought to herself. He still treats Spence with kindness I don't deserve.

"Aahh, C-c-commander doesn't deserve a useless ship like me," she mumbled. For once, I can't be scared. I have to do this. Spence sat up and wiped the tears from her eyes. She headed toward the dock and readied herself to depart. The destroyer briefly looked around to see none of the ships had taken notice of her. Ehh... they will never miss Spence. They will be happy... when Spence sinks herself. This will be better... for everybody. Spence took off for departure.

A few hours later, Spence was certain she was far enough that she wouldn't be found. Soon, Spence would be at the bottom of the sea, never to be seen again. Spence turned her destroyer main gun and pointed it to her heart.

"Goodbye, Commander" Spence smiled.
