And It Begins...
Elma stood at the top of a very small hill that led to somewhat of a valley. The night was almost over, and she'd been searching for the stasis pod for several hours. Elma wasn't used to the Miran landscape that was full of hiding places for all kinds of monsters.
Sighing, she walked down the hill. The pod was somewhere in this valley, she knew that for certain. Elma hadn't spent the entire night just walking around.
As she walked, she several sleeping creatures. The people of New Los Angeles didn't have names for them all yet, but these resembled bugs.
Thankfully they were asleep. Elma could take them, but it wouldn't have been easy. Though come morning, they'd wake up and be ready to fight.
Hopefully whoever this was she was tracking down could fight.
Elma pulled out her locator. She studied the screen, mentally orienting herself with her surroundings.
On the screen, a blipping dot pinged. It wasn't far from her location.
Elma nodded contentedly, and continued onward, the location of the pod memorized.
As she walked, in the distance through the night fog, she could see the light of the pod. Energized, Elma walked faster, and louder.
With a screech, one of the bugs woke up near her. Elma flinched with alarm, mentally berating herself for her carelessness.
As the bug charged at her, she reached up over her shoulders and grabbed her guns that were on her back.
She pointed both at the bug and began to fire, the bullets shooting rapidly as she pressed the triggers.
The bug was not deterred by the fire, and it kept charging towards her.
Elma sprang out of the way just in time as it got to her. She rolled to the side and got right back into a standing position and continued to fire.
Realizing the bullets weren't having much effect, Elma knew she'd have to find the monster's weak point.
Elma ran around the back and pointed her guns at the bug's back.
It had the intended effect she wanted. The bullets struck the creature and ripped through its skin, causing it to scream.
The bug tried to turn around, but Elma ran so that she was always facing away from its head.
After about a minute, the bug finally collapsed, dead.
Elma stowed her guns back onto her back. Sighing, she continued onward.
One did not get by on this harsh planet without being able to fight.
The stasis pod was not far. It was now clear through her vision.
Elma walked toward it, with caution, unlike before. Fortunately, there weren't any creatures near the stasis pod.
When she arrived at the pod, she quickly located the activation screen. Typing in her name and password, she hit the button to wake up whoever this was.
The stasis pod activated and began to open. Elma took her flashlight and turned it on so that the human would be able to see.
When the door fully opened, a man held up a hand to block the bright light from his eyes, as they were not used to it.
Elma pointed the light down and said. "I'm Elma. Who are you?"
"My nameā¦is Cross," the man said.
