Useless to Resist
Why was it that they would always resist?
That was something Kavma wanted to know.
No matter where he went, where he looked, people resisted. He saw it all. The Lightbender and Darkbender, for example. They fought continously against the darkness, to protect those they cared about. But for what purpose? It wasn't for personal gain, or something selfish. And yet there never seemed to be a reason. They just...did it. When they saved the Interloper, they didn't do it for profit. They merely did it due to chance and circumstance.
It was the same with others, he noted. The Author Fighters, keepers of the peace, protected the people from the fool Drake and his minions. But why? Why fight a foe who would only come back stronger than before? Was it madness? Was it duty? Or something else?
That wasn't all. He had seen the second Interloper save the Prince and pink djinn seemingly for no reason, other than the fact that he had been there. Why did he fight? Why did they all fight?
But there was one person, he knew, who did not fight.
Lucas.
The mere thought of the boy made him seethe with hatred. What right did that boy have to go on living, when he clearly should have been eliminated long before now? What right did he have of having such power, power greater than even his own?
What right did that boy have of condemning him, the creator of all, to eternal inferiority to a child?!
He mentally calmed himself. It would not do to lose control here, he knew. Besides, he would get his chance. Not now, but soon.
But one thing puzzled him. Why was it that others would resist, but the boy could not?
He knew the reason.
The boy's mother.
He knew that, if she was still alive, he would resist; she had given him strength, she was his shield. But now, that shield was gone, as was the father. Even the dog had vanished, he made sure of that.
As for the brother...
That was a special case. But he often wondered: Why did he give him to a fool like Pokey Minch in the first place? The brother wasn't much different from the boy, they both were descended from that hero, they had the same power. Why didn't he use it?
Perhaps because the mere though t of him made him sick to his stomach.
They all resisted. Why didn't the brothers do as well?
He would find out.
Interlopers or not, he would teach these fools what despair really was.
And all he had to do was wait.
He leaned against the wall, drinking in the night air as he saw the Interoper, as well as the accursed boy and the Light/Dark Benders, walk down the street to meet a fortune teller.
Why resist when it is inevitable? he asked himself.
He would find out.
