Many wonder why the Kokiri Forest is full of fairies. The truth is in the Deku Tree itself.
Every spring, the tree's flower buds burst open and the tiny fairies fly out.
As soon as they are free, they fly to all parts of the forest, including the Lost Woods.
Some are lucky enough to find a child. No one knows exactly how or why it happens
except for the Deku Tree, and Kokiri children never question it but simply regard it as a blessing.

Branches are shattered on a path from when, moments before, a woman ran by.
Blood is all over the place, and it's hard to tell whether it came from the branches or the woman.
In the background, screams are heard from every direction. The destroyed cities and towns
resemble the end of the world. The woman who broke the branches staggers into the Kokiri entrance,
where a newly hollowed out tree stump lies. Inside, the Kokiri children seem to have no idea what's going on.
They stare at the woman in a bewildered way as she runs to the sacred place where the Deku Spirit lies.
When she gets there, the small field, which is usually full of life, is silent. The woman walks
to the middle of the field and lays down her bundle just in front of the Deku Tree.
After saying a quick prayer, which sounds more like a plea, she slowly walks off.
She is running out of blood and will not get very far. The field is silent for a few moments
longer as if it is unsure of what to do. Finally, it makes a decision. A small sprout grows
out of a particularly large root and engulfs the bundle. It then curls very close to the tree and is still.
A small glow is emitting from the inside of the sprout. As dawn approaches, one of the
children come to talk to the Deku Tree notices the new growth. She smiles delightedly at
discovering this, and shows it to her fairy. The slight glow of the sprout lights up her hair and
gives it even more of a greenish glow.
