The Doctor smiled sadly as he watched the Pond's messing around together. He had taken them to a planet that was renowned for its wondrous scenery. Taking them to one specific part that he had always enjoyed with its lush green meadows and its beautiful lakes that seemed to go on even further into the distance than it let on, so that when the sun's rays hit the surface it twinkled and sparkled like the entire lake was made out of diamonds. "Albeit wet diamonds that isn't actually diamonds at all but more like water only sort of sparkling..." Or so this is what the Doctor had told them as they gawped at the stunning landscape before them. Now they were seated down by the lakes edge having fun for once not worrying about saving the world or having to run for their lives, just enjoying the moment and the wonders that were around for them to admire in the universe.
He sighed to himself watching them both, he never usually let married couples aboard the TARDIS and it was times like these that he remembered why. This was part of the reason why he carried on running, to stop himself from looking back because he couldn't afford to. It meant that he had time to remember, to reflect back on the good times and the bad times that had engulfed his life so far- and what a life it was! And now sitting here watching them both, how happy they are together only brought back memories of his previous companions and one in particular- Rose.
He had loved her there was no denying it but he could never say it out loud because he knew deep down in his hearts it would never have worked. But at least she had her own Doctor now. One that could actually love her in return and didn't have the same worries as he did, the ones which stopped him from moving the relationship further. It was strange, he figured that in this new body he wouldn't have similar feelings for her and although he hadn't really thought about it much since the regeneration- stuff happened and there was barely time for any Jammie Dodgers in between. Now watching Amy and Rory suddenly brought it all flooding back. He realised that he wouldn't ever feel entirely the same way about Rose now as he had back then, and if he could still meet her then she most probably would feel the same. After all she had fallen for him when he had worn those pinstripes and trainers, when his hair was more spiky and less floppy. But he still loved her really deep down, he remembered the travels they had the fun they got up to and the danger they always ended up in- some things never change. And he remembered the day that she disappeared out of his life forever, and the pain and sorrow he felt, even if he couldn't dwell on it, it was still there resting at the core of his hearts and his mind. Because really he could never let her go not properly, but now she was just a memory. Dead to the world she once lived in but very much still alive.
He shook himself out of his revive as Amy wandered slowly towards him giving him a little wave as she got closer.
"Hey Doctor when did you say we would leave?"
"Err...Whenever you want Pond." He replied trying to sound normal but obviously it had failed as Amy stared back at him one eyebrow raised questionably.
"You ok?"
The Doctor nodded and replied chocking back the renewed sadness he felt that was lingering in his throat "Of course, I'm always ok." He forced a little smile and watched as she accepted this and then turned to rejoin Rory back down by the lake's edge. He sighed as he turned his attention back towards the cotton cloud filled sky and wondered if somewhere out there she was with her Doctor, having fun and doing what they always did best... running!
A/N~ So hope you all enjoyed reading this. I just love the relationship between Rose and the Doctor and thought about what it must be like for 11 having to deal with those memories of her, especially whilst watching his friends who are living the life he couldn't.
