This is a short story about one of my friends, unfortunately, I don't own any of Criminal Minds, just the characters I make up.
Reid had just gotten over Maeve's death. He realized that the past couldn't be completely forgotten, something he would later learn from Supervisory Special agent Emily Prentiss. Emily was always there when somebody needed her to. She was fun to be around and she was the on that Reid had been able to go to after Maeve was brutally murdered. It had only ben a month since she had been killed. It was a tragic incident considering that the first time he ever met Maeve was also the last time he would see her alive. Emily had been there for him when nobody else
After a few months, Spencer had decided that it was time to move on. It's what Maeve would have wanted. She would want him to be happy, not upset. So he signed up for one of those dating websites. One of his first matches was a woman with blue eyes, and black hair. Her facial structure reminded Reid of Emily. He knew better than to think that. The truth was that Reid had liked Emily ever since day one. It was something he swore to keep to himself because he knew she wouldn't like him back in the way he had liked her. This picture looked a lot like her.
It had been three weeks since he had been talking to the girl who was called Melissa. Melissa and Reid were set up to meet at a restaurant. Melissa insisted that they go to a Mexican restaurant, but Reid wanted to go to the restaurant that Maeve and him were supposed to meet at. So that's what they both agreed on. Reid was sitting at a table set for two with an anxious look on his face, he was so nervous to meet her. She walked through the door and he immediately recognized her from her picture on the website. Why had he reminded her so much of Emily.
Spencer and Melissa talked all evening and eventually settled on going to Reid's house for a glass of wine. They sat and talked for a very long time. Spencer was genuinely upset when Melissa had to leave, but she and him both knew that they had work in the morning. It was a little after 1 o' clock in the morning when Reid went to lay down. He had already read the book "The Collector" by John Fowles twice in French and still couldn't the scent of her hair out of his head. It was a reality his head had turned into a dream, that he just kept reliving it over and over again. He couldn't explain why, or how, it just was.
The next morning Emily walked in and she seemed pleased. She had seemed happier than usual. Reid had tried to talk to her, but she just brushed it off as a lovely night on the town. Reid didn't believe her. It wasn't that Emily didn't trust Reid, she didn't trust anybody, not since Doyle had done his evil deed to Emily. She seemed on almost a high. Even Hotch asked Emily what was up with her, because she was so happy. The truth was that Emily had a dreamy date with the lovely Spencer Reid. He didn't know it was her though. That was part of the thrill. She would eventually tell him, but not yet. It wasn't time yet.
After several dates, each going better than the last, she decided that on their 3 month anniversary, it was time to tell Reid the truth. She beat around the bush for quite a while until the words finally came spilling out, Reid was excited, hurt and all of the other feelings that you could imagine that they would be feeling. He didn't know whether to be happy that he had the woman of his dreams, or betrayed by her actions. He decided to give it a chance.
After a few more months, Reid asked for her hand in marriage.
