A/N: This bunny stayed in my head until I wrote it. I hope it's okay. I tried to not fall into the Mary Sue category of things. It will stay a one shot, simply because I cannot get my muses to do this pairing.
She stared at her lover - one could never call him a boyfriend, for that would denote a relationship of some sort - with something akin to hate.
"I can't do this anymore." There, she thought, it has been stated loud and clear.
"Why is that?" The cold sneer gracing his face didn't quite reach his eyes. No, those held an unbidden curiosity that he wished he was able to conceal. Only she had the ability to bring his cool, remote facade down and bring up more passionate feelings.
"Because I want and deserve more. A late night roll in the sack, quick fuck, wham-bam moment... those are not what I expect for myself." She paused for a moment, collecting her thoughts. "Or, what I deserve. I may not be the prettiest girl in the school or the most desirable, but I am still a person with feelings. This ends tonight."
With a sharp pivot, she left him feeling completely and utterly dumbfounded.
Forcing herself to suppress the tears threatening to fall down her cheeks, she willed away the bleak memories of their loveless unions. She couldn't share these memories with anyone, which made her life all that much harder. But she wouldn't be someone's fling, she was better than that.
He watched her walk away, tempted to say her name and call her back. True, he didn't love her but he had felt something. Shouldn't that count, even just a little? Her footsteps faded down the stairs and away from him. Too late, he thought with a muffled sigh. He had lost the opportunity, let it slip through his fingers, like sand.
The little mud -- no, he supposed he couldn't call her that any longer -- Granger had left him. For the first time in Wizarding history, someone had left a Malfoy.
