This is an anime based oneshot that is my idea on why Zola fights. I also wanted a bit of Zola/Kluke interaction. There wasn't enough of it in either the game or the anime! I was also curious as to what Zola would be like when angry, not just cold and calculating.
"Hey Zola?" The white-haired female turned around at the mention of her name. Looking at the cute pink girl, she smiled.
"Yes, Kluke?"
"Why do you fight?" Kluke was so innocent, never realised what the implications would be. Zola narrowed her eyes.
"What is it to you?" Taking a step towards Kluke, she crossed her arms. "Why do you want to know?"
"Well…" Kluke poked the floor with her big toe and stared at the floor. "I uh, I'm curious?"
"Well don't be! It's my business, now shut it and leave me alone!" Zola snapped. Zola turned to walk away, but stopped when she heard sniffles. Turning back to Kluke, she saw the girl wiping her face with her arm.
"You don't have to be so mean, Zola!" Kluke shouted. "Instead of focusing on fighting all the time, why don't you spend some real time with us, your comrades. None of us like you! We're only following you to save the world! So you, missy, will be left alone as you asked. I'm going to spend time with people who actually have a shred of human decency, and aren't just cold-hearted monsters!" Kluke stomped off. Zola had recoiled at Kluke's words, and immediately felt guilty.
"Kluke, wait!" Addressed person turned around and glared at Zola with menace.
"What!" Not a question. Zola slowly advanced on the girl that was trembling with rage. Getting close to Kluke, Zola got to her knees. She drew Kluke in for a soft hug. Confused, Kluke stood there stiffly.
"I'm sorry." Zola whispered into her ear. "It's just a personal…thing. I fight because…I'm afraid. To conquer that fear…that fear of loss. If I can do that, then maybe I'll finally be strong enough to take on Nene." Zola felt tears coming on. "My father. He died when I was very young. I still feel lost without him. I don't know if what I'm doing is right but…I'm trying. To avenge him…It's such a sore memory." Zola pulled away and stood up, her own eyes tearing up.
"I'm sorry Zola. I had no idea it was such a sensitive issue…" Kluke blushed. "I really am sorry…" Zola smiled and ruffled Kluke's hair.
"It's alright. C'mon, let's get lunch!" Zola ran, motioning for Kluke to follow her.
"Coming!" Kluke giggled.
