The sound of panting could be heard as a young woman pushed herself up a long flight of stairs. A large black basket was held in one hand as the other clutched the railing. The woman felt as if a subway was crushing her lungs, she couldn't breathe. She leaned against the wall of the thirteenth floor of the Boston Hotel, her chest heaving with effort. She slammed her fist several times against a random door before setting down the basket gently and running away.
A man came from the other side of the door. He looked around slowly, a low growl forming in his throat. The large man looked down slowly, eyeing the small basket wearily. He squatted, easily balancing on his toes; he pushed a blanket off the basket, revealing a sleeping baby. The man glared at his surroundings, a heavy footfall rang in his ears. A heavyset man walked out of the elevator angrily. "Where are you, you fucking whore?!" Angel looked down at the basket once more as he stood up. He grabbed the handle and pulled it inside, setting it behind the door. Angel began to close the hotel door, but a beefy hand stopped him. "Have you seen a girl running through here?"
"No," was Angel's simple reply. Angel attempted to close the door again.
"You hiding anything?" Angel simply glared at the overweight man. "If you're not hiding anything then would you mind if I take a look around?" Angel stepped back, opening the door a little bit. As the man stepped inside the baby began to cry. The man pulled out a gun and Angel pushed the door forward, the edge slamming into the fat man's face. Angel kicked the gun out of his hand and grabbed his chubby shoulder, throwing him into the elevator.
"He's going down," and he turned his back on the bellboy. Angel walked back to his room and closed the door. The baby was no longer crying; in fact she seemed to be giggling. Angel picked up the basket and set it on the table. A black envelope rested on top of the small infant. The young vampire picked up the letter and opened it.
"To Who This May Concern,
I can no longer take care of my own child. My husband is after us; he wants us dead. I ask you please keep her safe. There is a weeks worth of supplies in the basket. There is also some money to pay for future investments. Please be better parents then we were, her name is Chelsey and she was born September 2nd. I will not come back for her, tell her I'm sorry."
A single gunshot rang through the air, Angel looked up suddenly as a flock of doves flew towards the heavens. Angel looked down at the baby and made a life changing decision. "I suppose you're my redemption, Chelsey."
