"So, is our normal table okay?" he asked her, grabbing her hand in his, and she felt a slight flutter in her stomach, as she always did whenever they made physical contact.
"Of course it is, I'll see you after class," she assured him, planting a quick kiss on his waiting lips before leaving to go to her Arithmancy lesson, bouncing happily as her brown curls swung back and forth.
"Hermione, wait," she stopped and turned around, finding Ron running up to her.
"Ron, I'm going to be late to my class, what do you need?" she told him, looking through her bag to make sure she had her assignment.
"Why are you with Draco? I mean, at first, I thought it was just a joke, but it's been a month. I thought you liked me." he says, and she is shocked by his words.
"Excuse me?"
"He's a complete git and called you a bunch of horrible names. You can't just forgive him for all of that," he clarified, completely oblivious to how rude he was being.
"You broke up with me, remember? You don't get to tell me what to do. I loved you, Ron, but you turned me down. Do you recall the whole speech about not messing up our friendship? That hurt, but I've moved on, and I'm not going to break up with Draco just because you think it's wrong! How dare you!"
"Hermione, I love you," He whispered, looking up to her through his hair that clearly hadn't been cut in ages, "I know why you're doing this thing with Draco, and you don't need to make me jealous anymore, I realize I was a jerk to break it off with you, and I want you back. I really mean it."
"You're being more of a jerk now than you ever were before. Draco and I have nothing to do with you, and I don't care what you think!"
"Hermione, stop, I can't let you torture yourself anymore, I really want to be with you and will do whatever it takes."
She didn't know what else to say to get him to understand, so she just left, realizing with anger that she was already late for her lesson.
"You were late, love," Draco said as soon as Hermione got to their table in the very back of the library.
"I'm sorry, I was late to class because Ron was being a jerk," she explained, collapsing on the chair next to him, throwing her bag on the table.
"Wait, say that again?"
She laughed, and began explaining, "I guess Ron still loves me-"
"As anyone in their right mind would," Draco interrupted, and she smiled, grabbing his hand as she had done a few hours before.
"Anyways, he told me that I should break up with you because I was just using you to make him jealous, and I told him off, and I really don't plan on speaking to him for quite some time."
"I think I'll go look for him," Draco started to stand up when she stopped him, pleading with her eyes to get him to sit back down.
"Can we not let him ruin my day even more?"
"Of course, love. So how was your day?"
They talked for at least an hour, changing subjects randomly, never speaking of anything too permanent.
"I can't believe he wanted us to break up," Draco muttered all of a sudden, turning the mood from lighthearted to serious in an instant.
"Neither can I, but what it really showed me is that I'm over him, and I don't think I'll ever be over you," she assured him, realizing with a smile that she was in love with the boy that a year earlier she had hated with her whole being.
"I love you," he says, kissing her hand he had been holding for quite awhile. Hermione found it strange how different the three words sounded coming from him rather than Ron.
"I love you, too. And I am so happy that I'm yours," she responded, kissing him softly.
"Now I'm going to go find the Weasel and tell him that you're taken."
