Hi guys! This isn't anything to do with my Clace oneshots or Shadowhunters for that matter but I wrote it today in English and I want to know what you all think. It will only stay as a oneshot and it is all completely my own ideas. Please review!

Cold metal kept bumping against his calloused hands. Grinning, he thought about his childhood friend. He thought about her face when her current boyfriend would get down on one knee. The edges of her mouth would curl up but her soft features would morph into shock and tears would start to form – just like when they were kids.

Stepping out into the open air, he waited for a taxi. His trip had been successful and he had purchased the gold band that told her a promise. A promise to always love her and never leave her. He didn't worry about rejection. Blue sky surrounded the golden sunlight as if it knew how special today was. He looked up at the sky, closed his eyes and took a deep breath before embarking on his journey home.

Golden locks curled and uncurled in the gentle breeze. The temperature was rising, slowly, gradually, but rising all the same.

Soon, it would be unbearable.

That didn't matter though. Soon, his best friend would be engaged. She would look at him and not know whether to laugh or cry. Probably both.

Shadows broke up the golden sunlight for moments at a time. Dark shadows that crawled into the taxi and blocked out the light. But in the blink of an eye… they were gone and another one had taken its place. They were an army, constantly being cut down, constantly being replaced.

Arriving at place they had arranged to meet, he sat down. Slowly, the bench creaked under his strong build but his mind was in one place. He kept replaying the message in his mind as an attempt to control his trembling fingers and racing heart. What if she said no? All this planning would be wasted, the perfect moment would be gone.

No.

She would say yes. His panicking mind didn't want to be controlled until a shadow blocked his view of the golden sand under the clear water of the pond. His hopeful face sank when he realised who it was.

Cold metal shocked his calloused hands as he passed the ring over. He looked at the new arrival sitting next to him and tried to smile.

"I hope she says yes." He whispered before walking away. His trip had been successful. He had managed to collect the ring for his best friend's current boyfriend. But he had also realised he should be the one giving her the ring.

It was too late now.
