Night of The Batman
In light of the upcoming Dark Knight film, I made up this short story.
Enjoy!
A bat-symbol appears within the blue smoke of clouds and zooms in.
We see the night of Gotham City. A man exits out of a liquor bar.
"Good night, Paul." The man said to the bartender inside.
"See ya, Dave. Careful on the street. I hear crazy things happen at night." Paul said to Dave.
The man walks down the dark street and a shadow lurks from the alleyway.
The man continues to walk down the road but gets suspious of the loud foot steps he's hearing. He turns back to see if anyone's following him but nothing is and so he continues to walk down. But then he hears the footsteps again. Like a giant coming after Jack in a fairy tale. Dave gets nervous and starts walking fast and eventually starts running and turns to the nearest alley. He runs out of plain sight but hits a dead-end wall.
The footsteps come closer and the man looks back to see a giant shadow come toward him. "Who are you?" He asked. And the man answers; "Your salvation." And then grows to an enormous size and much to Dave's horror he sweats so much he thought he was gonna die by this man's hands. "Now this might hurt a bit." The brute said just as he strikes the man. Cut off but we hear Dave's scream offscreen.
"AHHHHHHH!"
The next morning at Gotham General, Sergeant Gordon exits Dave's recovery room and talks with Crispus Allen one of his Major Crimes Units.
"How is he, James?" He asked.
"He suffered a concussion, but at least he's alive." Said Gordon.
"He's lucky to be alive. This is third attack of a guy who becomes humungously large this week." Stated Allen. "What's gonna happen if he strikes again?"
Gordon doesn't answer and he thinks of a better solution.
On the roof of Gotham Central, Gordon is standing next the Bat-signal which is shining onto the sky calling for Batman. He hears footsteps land onto the ground and notices them from behind.
"It's just you and me. Come on out." Said Gordon and Batman comes out of the darkness.
"Another one?" Batman asked.
"His name is Dave Thompson. Got attacked by this dark guy yesterday while going home."
"Dave Thompson. He has overdramatic stress disorder. The sign of being followed must have triggered him off."
"You went to see him."
Batman hands him something. His wallet.
"His wallet?"
"Look closer."
Gordon looks at it closer and feels that it has been punched hard.
"It's torn to pieces." Gordon said.
"No ordinary man can just rip off a piece of that fabric in just one pull. It was inhuman. Superstrength. Done with bare hands."
"So, we're dealing with a superhuman being? Okay. Do you know what to do with-" As Gordon looked back at Batman he was gone. "I hate it when he does that."
