Hammer and Sickle Trilogy:
Fortress Stalingrad
Vol. 1
Dawn broke over the industrial and residential buildings of the city of Stalingrad. Although the sun was warm the air was quite chilling as Alexi Konev began his daily walk to the industrial complex. He walked down main street and turned off down an ally towards a small steel door. Though this appears to be a normal day for Alexi his world will now be changed forever…
Chapter 1
"Morning Alexi" the security guard warmly welcomed him as Alexi steped in from the ally. "Morning Vasili" Alexi responded as he brushed the small bit of snow that built up on his coat. The security guard stood up from his desk, grabbed his clipboard and checked his watch. "Well early today are we" he chuckled as he jotted the time down on his clipboard.
"Well I am a little early, but those T34's wont build themselves Vasili" Alexi joked back. "Anyway sense I'm clocked in I might as well get to work." He hung up his coat up in his locker and put his lunch box in with it. "See you at lunch Alexi" Vasili called to him as he walked into the factory. There was a cold breeze blowing in from a series of open windows, even though the weather was calling for a large amount of snow alexi left the windows open. The cold came seeping in and rapped around him like a blanket as he tried to fire up one of the many stoves in the factory to keep its workers warm, Alexi tried a couple times before getting the fire lit. An hour passed before the rest of the workers started pouring in.
Alexi had been working for a good two hours before the storm picked up, it was worse then that was predicted. The wind howled loudly and rattled the windows and blew snow through the open ones but the cold air was welcomed in the oven that the men where working in. Alexi took his welding mask off and wiped the sweat of his brow, he looked over to his partner who too was taking a quick breather "Alexi" the man spoke "Do you think that the war will reach to Stalingrad" he asked "I hope the snow will stop those fascist dead in their tracks" to Alexi he sounded very nervous that the Soviet Red Army would not be able to stop the Nazi assault.
"I'm sure we will do fine my friend" Alexi tried to calm his partner down but it did little to ease his nerves
