A/N: I know this is a little different from what I normally do, but I was really inspired by this song I heard and decided to try to write this. It's my first Songfic, so if it turns out bad, I'm sorry. Still OC/Dalton. Rated T for (almost) death. And I get that the house layout doesn't make sense, sorry.

Cooking was always a disaster for me, but it was never this bad. I tried making some casserole, which was supposed to be nice and simple, but I still managed to screw it up. I swear I only left for two minutes, but in that time, everything managed to go to hell.

I heard the smoke alarm go off, so I ran back into the kitchen, to find a growing tower of smoke streaming out of the oven. To this day I am unable to understand how it happened, but I will always understand that it was my fault, which is a pile of guilt I am forced to live with.

I had a dream about a burning house

For a second, I couldn't move. I was frozen with fear and stress and I didn't know what to do. When my brain began working again, my first thought was of Dalton. I ran to the bedroom, which was luckily on the other side of our small house.

"Dalton? Come out, we have a problem!" I yelled, unable to keep out the panic lacing my voice.

He ran out quickly. "What, what's wr- oh." he cut off as soon as he saw the problem. "Oh, uh, oh no! How did this happen? Did you call 911? Are you ok?" he blurted quickly.

"Cooking disaster, not yet, yes."

"Ok, well you should get on calling the fire department."

"Yeah, yeah." I assured him as I pulled out my phone. "Ok, they're coming."

"We should get out."

"Right, of course." I dashed toward the door, only to find it blocked by the still growing tower of flame.

We were stuck inside, I couldn't get you out

What to do...The Windows!

"Go through the windows!" I shouted.

"We only have two and they are in that hallway, now also blocked by flames," he said, trying to be calm.

"Well- I- I don't know what to do!" I cried. "I really don't want to die, we have our whole lives ahead of us."

"Shhh, I know. Look, the fire people are coming, let's go farther away from the fire and they should get here in time. Okay?" he soothed.

"Yeah, okay," I answered, wiping away my tears.

We laid down in the bedroom, the room farthest from the flame.

I laid beside you and pulled you close

But, the fire soon reached us due to our cheap wood and wicker furniture.

And the two of us went up in smoke

I think I was knocked unconscious, I don't remember anything other than that. I woke up in a hospital from some burns and smoke inhalation. It was a scary experience but I survived, and I would have panicked without Dalton. When we were able to go home, I told him.

"Listen. I wouldn't have made it without you. I love you. And I mean that," I said.

"Thank you. But I needed you also. I love you, too."

A/N: Thanks for reading and I hope you liked it. Again, it was my first one, so I hope it was good. Credit for the song, "Burning House", goes to Cam.
