A/N: Not my usual pairing, but I thought I'd give it a go and see what happens.
'I still think about you every day, y'know. I mean, I know I don't come here as much as I used to, but I'm still thinking about you all the time, I promise.' Sam shifted her weight slightly from her left hand, running her fingers through the hair of the young girl sitting next to her, shuffling through the play list on her I-pod. 'It's been 10 years y'know, I'm starting to cope more now, not that I don't still miss you, because I do, but I've got to keep it together, always have done, for Kara.'
The girl looked up at the mention of her name, grinning at Sam before the song changed, drawing her attention back to her I-pod. 'She's happy.' Sam smiled slightly, her eyes falling to the grass she was sitting on briefly before she looked back to Kara. 'I guess I'm going to have to tell her soon. Everything I mean.' Double checking the young girl still had her headphones on, she continued. 'She knows some of it, but she's still young, give it a couple of years and she'll understand more.'
Sam sighed, hearing the familiar tune in the distance, resting a hand on Kara's shoulder, she signalled for the girl to take her headphones off. 'Why don't you go get an ice cream, eh?' Seeing the child's face light up, she shifted slightly so she could get some money out of her pocket. 'Here, it's probably at the park, don't be long.' Sam watched as Kara disappeared into the distance.
'It's not fair that she only got 2 years with you, it wasn't long enough, you should have seen her grow up, she's great. I hope I've brought her up well, she seems fine though. I just wish you'd been with us, it's not right that she doesn't know who you are, not right at all. I hope I've done okay though, I mean, I hope you'd be proud to say I've brought up your daughter.'
Sam felt a tear escape her eye as she thought of what to say next. 'Why did you do it? Why did you have to be so brave, so heroic? It's not what I wanted, I didn't want you to prove yourself to me, I wanted you Sheelagh. I loved you Shee, all I wanted was to be with you forever. I love you.'
Sam found her eyes had filled with tears. Quickly wiping them away, she heard a noise behind her. She turned around to see Kara heading towards her, two ice creams in her hands. 'Here, I got one with a flake.' She grinned, handing one of the ice creams to Sam. 'Can we go now?'
Sam smiled, getting up off the grass, 'Yeah, come on, we can go get those jeans you wanted if you like.'
'Really?'
Sam grinned, 'Yeah, really.'
'Thanks mum. It's nice y'know.'
'What is?'
'Here. Nice place to scatter her ashes.'
Sam put her free arm around Kara's shoulders. 'Come on, let's go shopping.' She concluded, smiling again as they headed towards the car.
