Nekros wasn't the newest member of the dojo but that never meant he still didn't feel that way. That's not to say the others didn't make him feel welcome, but there was still this underlying feeling that somehow he didn't really fit in. Perhaps it was because, while the others simply killed their targets and moved on, he would stay back and deal with their corpses; whether that was by desecrating them or by summoning their souls back from the ether to fight for him.
He felt like an undertaker of sorts. A bastardized mortician. There was no need for the enemy to bury their dead since there isn't a body left to bury- turned to star dust to be swept away in the ensuing gun battle. Though, now that he thinks about it, Corpus don't bury anyone since they just incinerate or recycle everything anyway.
He felt the uncommonly large chunk of rubedo between his fingers and watched it shine red in the light. He looked up at the large Loki statue in the hall. It apparently was a tribute to the founder of the dojo who was among the first to fall to Lephantis, killed by the creature bursting out of part of the ship and crushing three of the four Teno assigned to the mission.
Lotus' voice transmitted an offer to clear out infested on Mars and Saryn accepted the invitation; Rhino also accepted and the two of them left. A small pang of jealousy coursed through Nekros's veins but he shook it off; he was neither ready to embark on such a mission nor would he be able to focus with Saryn there. She was too much of a distraction.
"Saryn..."
He wondered how she handled the sight of her friends dying mere meters away. There were a few whispers that she had been in a relationship of sorts with Loki; if so, she must have nearly lost her mind... She sure looked like she had when she cracked open his Cryotube. Now that he thought about it, she looked more like she lost a brother than a lover, though, that could just be his imagination attempting to give him hope.
He sighed, stood up, and headed to the obstacle course. Hopefully, the focus required to complete the course would take his mind off of the Red-and-Black female.
