Title: Back To Normal

Sat crossed legged on the floor of the loft, Lois rolled her eyes at the look of extreme concentration on the face of the person in front of her. This seemed like a good idea at the time, but like most ideas, the good part didn't last that long.

"You know if you stare any harder, they might catch on fire."

Clark briefly looked up with a shocked expression at her words, but then back down once he registered the amused look that came with them. His eyes flicked over the pieces in front of him, and his brow furrowed as he contemplated his next move.

Lois sighed, putting her hands flat on the floor behind her and leaning back, she cocked her head to one side and stared at Clark. After a couple of minutes of nothing she began to get frustrated.

"It's not rocket science, just pick them up, move them around and then put them down."

"It's not that easy, Lois. Now will you quit bugging me so I can concentrate?"

"But you're taking forever and I can feel the caffeine levels in my system plummeting. Never a good thing."

"This was your idea!"

"And now I'm bored with my idea. If you don't hurry up then I'm just gonna go back to the house and find something else to do. Cooking with your mom has got to be more fun."

"Okay, okay. Hold on a sec, I've nearly got it." Clark shifted his weight and then once again looked down.

After a moment he laid down his letters on the board and grinned at Lois. She eyed the upside down word suspiciously and then turned the board to read it properly.

"That's not a word!" She looked up at Clark who was now in the relaxed position of leaning back against the couch.

"Yes it is."

"No, it's not!"

"Yes, it is."

"No it's not, Clark!"

"Yes it is, Lois. It's also on a triple word score which means that I win."

Lois was about to argue but stopped when she saw the smile on Clark's face. She hadn't seen that smile in a while, not since before all the terrible things of Dark Thursday happened. Lois missed that smile. The one that she liked to think was just for her, the one that made him look carefree, happy and handsome.

She couldn't believe that after all the things she had tried, to get him back to before, back to normal, it took letting him win a game of scrabble that worked. With a small smile at her own victory, Lois leaned back on her hands once again.

"Only this time, Smallville."
