Lorelai heard the familiar sound of the bells ringing above her as she walked into the diner. A sound she had not heard enough in the past few months. Her visits to the diner were becoming less and less frequent. That was going to end now. It had to. She was a woman on a mission. She walked up to the counter, looking as serious as luke had probably ever seen her.

"we need to talk"

"is everything ok?" he caught onto her seriousness and fear at once.

"I don't want to have this conversation in diner full of people" she said, eying Patty and Babbette, who were sitting at a near by table.

"right. Upstairs?"

"yeah," she said and worked her way up the stairs as she had done so many times. "First of all, I didn't do this on purpose, not that I'm exactly upset about it, and I'm not sure how you will react."

"ok, Lorelai, just tell me what it is. You're starting to scare me"

She could see the obvious concern on his face. "okay. Here goes. I don't know any other way to say this but to just come out with it. I'm pregnant." She waited to see his reaction. But he was very hard to read when he wanted to be.

"and you're sure?"

Not exactly the question she wanted to hear. " yeah, I'm sure. I just got back from my gynocolegist's office. I'm 8 weeks pregnant."

Lorelai watched his face and a smile slowly broke out. He wrapped his arms around her, pulled her into an embrace, and kissed her.Not exactly the reaction she was expecting.

"so, you're happy about this?"

"Of course I am! Lorelai, how could I be anything but?"

"Well , its just lately with everything going on, I know its probably not the best time, with april and everything. You're trying to adjust to the fact that you have a daughter then all of a sudden your going to have another daughter/son. I know you said you wanted kids, but everything is all happening at once, and we're not even married yet, and-"

"lorelai, you're babbling." He said.

"yeah, I know, I just-"

"I'm happy. Anytime is the right time. I love you lorelai. And I know I don't say that often enough, and I'm sorry. I have a lot to be srry about, especially these last few months. But, I promise, I'll make it up to you."

She smiled, happy that something was finally turning out right.

She had finally found it. Her middle. Her 'whole package', and it dawned on her what he said that night several years ago:

"you'll get it"

"how do you know?"

"because I know"

"but HOW do you know?"

"because I know, ok, I know, now eat your donut.

And he was right. She got it.

She kissed him, knowing that everything would be ok. As long as they were together, they could make it through anything.
