Morning Bombshell
On his way to have his customary third cup of coffee, Rui stills. He knows when he's being watched.
Slowly, he turns to look at his right.
It sits so innocently on the kitchen counter, next to the red planner and empty teacup. (Since when did they have tea?) It stares back at him with large blue eyes, solemnly, silently, as if it knows what kind of bombshell it brings to the breakfast table.
The empty coffee mug falls with a heavy clunk on the counter, and his eyes are frozen on the object when his wife comes in.
"What is it?" Tsukushi asks, hopping on one foot as she hurriedly jams the other in a pair of nude tights. She has a court case later that day, so she forces herself into the black suit she wears whenever she has to. She follows his line of sight, and…"Oh. Oops."
Oops?
"Tsukushi?"
"Ah—I kind of…you know…wanted to tell you…later…I guess?" Tsukushi tries to laugh off with a nervous giggle, watching him. When he just continues to stare at her, she blusters, "Well, remember that time when we had the wine and you kept trying to get me drunk—"
"Yes, I remember," he says blankly. Why would she bring up that night?
She just stares at him, flabbergasted. "Wait. Do I have to spell this out? I do, don't I?" she adds darkly when he looks at her with a blank expression. Taking a deep breath, she doesn't mince words:
"I'm pregnant, you idiot!"
